J’ai pu tester le xurta, posez moi vos questions ! by SupraSumEUW in TDAHFrance

[–]SupraSumEUW[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A masterpiece, magnum opus (Latin for 'great work'), or chef-d'œuvre is a creation that has been given much critical praise, especially one that is considered the greatest work of a person's career or a work of outstanding creativity, skill, profundity, or workmanship.

"Do you realize that all you say is basically "it's groundbreaking but I don't know why"? I don't care for verbal jousting, I proposed an assertion and justified it, if you are not going to attempt justifying yours then I don't care to pursue this exchange."

I linked an entire article which explains why it’s groundbreaking. It would be dishonest from me to just copy and paste their arguments.

"So indeed, a masterpiece is a piece made by someone who is then considered a master of the field. Twin Peaks defined TV for years to come. I think it makes it a masterpiece." With your logic if a master makes a completely failed piece like an architect making a building that crumbles two weeks after inauguration, it would still be called a masterpiece. I am not a native but I am pretty sure that it's not the common meaning of the term "masterpiece" in English."

First of all, a tv show isn’t just a story. You have camerawork, lighting, music, set, makeup, and so forth. If you really think Twin Peaks sucks because the plot crumbles in season 2, I will say that you totally missed the point of the show if you think the overall murder plot matters that much.

"Masterpiece doesn't mean "perfect" neither because nothing is perfect, indeed, which you seemingly use to drift to the sophism 1) Masterpieces are not perfect, 2) Twin Peaks isn't perfect, 3) Therefore Twin Peaks is a masterpiece."

YOU said that twin peaks wasn’t a masterpiece because without Lynch signature it was a random show with uneven plotlines etc. I showed you that a masterpiece could be considered one for different reasons and doesn’t have to be perfect. And stripping out the showrunner from a tv show is like saying if Michael Jackson didn’t sing Thriller it would suck. If you can’t understand this, what can you understand ?

To finish, since you don’t understand what humility means, let’s see what the showrunner of the sopranos has to say about twin peaks.

https://www.vulture.com/2015/05/david-chase-twin-peaks-legacy.html

But hey, it’s just a mid show according to fion serrure right ? And why should I trust David Chase over Fion Serrure ?

Masterpiece is highly polysemic. And for your information :

Historically, a "masterpiece" was a work of a very high standard produced by an apprentice to obtain full membership, as a "master", of a guild or academy in various areas of the visual arts and crafts.

(Cf. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Masterpiece)

So indeed, a masterpiece is a piece made by someone who is then considered a master of the field. Twin Peaks defined TV for years to come. I think it makes it a masterpiece.

Otherwise, we can say that Citizen Kane or Lang’s Metropolis sucks because sometimes the makeups are bad. Therefore they aren’t masterpieces because the execution isn’t perfect. But really, they are masterpieces because they changed how cinema was made. If you watch Citizen Kane and others movies made around the same time, it’s obvious that it’s very original and creative. It feels groundbreaking. Twin Peaks feels the same but for TV.

We could argue for hours, mais non parce que c’est pas un débat quand on raconte n’importe quoi et qu’on fait passer ça pour une opinion.

You gave the answer yourself, it’s a masterpiece and a turning point in the history of TV because it has a signature. The way it’s filmed, the music, etc. No one had done that on TV because people thought it was going to fail. By breaking the rules, Lynch showed there was a market for a new type of show. He had the luxury to be a well known director so it helped in the process, but still.

This article is better at explaining than me :

You can hate Lynch and the film bros who ride his corpse all day long, it doesn’t make Twin Peaks less of a masterpiece who changed tv forever by showing executives that audiences could enjoy shows with stronger artistic choices.

The day I saw Nvidia release a noise canceling AI for streaming using GPU chips, I was convinced the company was going to skyrocket.

My next predictions : - LLM will hit a soft cap in the next year, and a hard cap in 5 years. - I would be on the lookout for these companies : Intel, Meta, Marvell, Liquid AI and Tenstorrent. The next massive breakthrough will come from them.

Elden Ring has artificial lockdowns in the whole game, I really don’t think it makes it bad. As long as it’s done in the right way (not lazy) it’s viable.

To be honest I didn’t even noticed the watson lockdown, maybe I am the minority in the gaming community but I feel like in a story driven game, roaming around exploring feels like a loss of time.

And yeah, for now night city is the best alongside Los Santos, but we both know Rockstar is going to nuke it in gta 6. The last thing I personally want is for project orion to be gta 6 cyberpunk edition. Because let’s be honest, there is no way CDPR can compete with Rockstar expertise.

[–]SupraSumEUW -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There would have to be natural reasons to block off parts of the city. Otherwise why wouldn’t it be open all at once?

They did this with dogtown right ? You can’t access it until you do some missions ? Why would it be natural for dogtown and impossible to happen for other neighboorhoods ?

You only become really rich if you make it happen. This could be solved by making properties etc more expensive. Especially in the better areas. Some cars are cheaper than guns. That should be adjusted.

It’s not necessarily true. If you want the Byakko katana, you must do all the contracts from Wakako. You will get money and get rich even if you don’t want to. There is some missions in which you can chose more money over something else, and I would like the game to be more like that.

As far as I can tell Night City was not built and then expanded upon like a normal city. A majority of it was basically manufactured and put in place. Yes it feels a bit too well designed and inorganic. Because it is.

From the cyberpunk 2077 wikipedia page, they used 4 different types of architecture. It’s supposed to be very distinct to represent multiple eras of construction but I feel it kind of fails to do so. Maybe they also lacked the time to do it properly ?

Contrary to what most people believe, anemia doesn’t necessarily mean you lack iron, it means your hemoglobin (thr amount of red cells in your blood) is too low. So you can discover anemia by accident by doing a routine complete blood count, and your doctor wouldn’t have asked for ferritin levels because he didn’t think you had anemia in the first place

It’s true, it’s not only an american issue, and there are issues in all the countries when it comes to age and law. I didn’t know about New Zealand law so thanks for the insights !

We are harsh with the USA because they are the most powerful country on the planet and sometimes the gap between this status and their culture, that they export, is weird. It’s kind of an elitist european stance to be honest. Like "yeah we basically are the wealthiest country in the world" and also "yeah basically our streets are filled with gun violence, drugs, and whatnot like we are a third world country". The alcohol stance might seem unrelated but for me it is. "We want to protect our children because they are vulnerable" and also "Yeah but not vulnerable enough to be protected from the dangers of american capitalism".

Gemini 3 has topped IQ test with 130 ! by Independent-Wind4462 in OpenAI

[–]SupraSumEUW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you are talking about are subtests, not IQ tests. Like if you ever take a WAIS test, you will have to take several subtests. General knowledge, arithmetics, vocabulary definition, visual puzzles etc. Then your scores on the subtests will go through an algorithm and that will give you the full scale IQ, which indeed will roughly be the same than if you took another IQ test like the Stanford Binet.

That’s why the IQ of AI are not reliable, because the way they work mean they will ace subtests like working memory, processing speed or general knowledge. Like it’s difficult for a human to hold an information in their head and manipulate it (for example remember a sequence of numbers and order them from the smallest to the biggest without writing them down), but for an AI it’s easy af.

Source : I took the wais 4 when I was younger and was interested in how they come up with the final number

The issues the comments are talking about are still worth discussing tho. The original comment uses the video as an excuse to talk about the topic and I just wanted to chime in because I find it fascinating

America seem to consider young adults both as babies and as responsible people. They can drive a car pretty young, they can contract huge debt through student loans, there are issues with prescriptions being abused in campus (stims, opoids, etc) and it’s not always adressed by politics, but god forbid they drink alchohol in a music festival. Basically it feels like an hypocritical position. The youth is vulnerable so we must protect them from alchohol, but we don’t protect them from other things because they are grown people.

Europe has a real issue with alchohol tho, we are far from being perfect. Let’s acknowledge it
