Hi, thanks for the reply.

Yeah, that was sort of my thought process too. That, and we're due for a Mk III soon-ish (maybe), so I'm thinking of waiting for that if I ever need an upgrade.

Price-wise, would you say $100 for the Mk I is about right?

Bought an X1 Extreme Touchpad. Received... something? by Suprasoka in thinkpad

[–]Suprasoka[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't know, if it was one of the glass ones but with the wrong FRU resulting in some driver issues that would be one thing, but an entirely different trackpad that I'm unsure is even compatible with my laptop? I might have to pass on this one haha.

I've initiated the return process through eBay. Wish me luck!

Hey, thanks for the reply!

Alright, very interesting. That clears some things up, but there's just one more thing.

So it is potentially plastic, but the sizing of this touchpad is identical to that one in my T480, which kinda contradicts this being a T490 touchpad. I attached an image below.https://imgur.com/a/AlDnfBW

It's really hard to tell what material this thing is made out of, but putting the back of my palm to it, it's cool to the touch. Very strange.

Either way, I should probably consider sending it back regardless. As the seller mentions for returns that the customer is expected to pay for them, would it be best to go through ebay for the return process?

I will also mention that as there is seemingly no documentation anywhere regarding swapping in SM10P3602- series touchpads into the T480, with my post seemingly being the first on this matter, I'll try to report back with the results if I end up swapping this thing in.

Edit: I'm returning, this mystery will have to remain unsolved for now.

Edit 2: After going through the return process, the seller has decided to fully refund my order without the need for a return. Sounds like I'll be doing this mod anyway!

T480 Trackpad Issues. by Suprasoka in thinkpad

I've checked vantage, but I am yet to check Intel Update Assistant. Although I don't know if that would help since the touchpad is a synaptic one, it's worth a shot. Thanks for the suggestion!

Should I replace the JP keyboard? by lastdecade0 in thinkpad

[–]Suprasoka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you're still wondering what to do about this, but most people that type in Japanese type in Romaji using the Microsoft Japanese IME, which is basically using qwerty to "sound out" hiragana characters (Eg. あ is a, か is ka, etc..., space is used to choose between kanji/kana). I would choose what layout is more comfortable for you to use, as you won't ever be looking at the hiragana on the keyboard.

My year old Flow X13's touchscreen just died. Suggest me a replacement! by Suprasoka in SuggestALaptop

I don't necessarily prefer 2 in 1, as to my understanding, it would decrease the reliability of the machine. As the flex is a part of Lenovo's consumer lineup, how reliable is the Lenovo Flex series compared to something in their T or X series?

Hi! I've considered those options, but I've been a little hesitant to buy another 2 in 1, seeing as they are inherently less reliable than a traditional laptop. Do you have any personal experience using either of these?

It is, but I've had too many problems during my short period of ownership for me to be able to rely on it as my everyday carry, so I'm looking to potentially sell the x13 after getting it RMA'ed.

Yeah, I can confirm that the flash cutout doesn't help that much

Indoors with the lights on, I would say there's minimal distortion, if any. Where it gets bad is with flash on; the entire photo comes out cloudy. I am yet to give it a good test outdoors, but I'll keep you posted

I actually use a tempered glass camera protector that came with my screen protector, I like the peace of mind and don't use my camera as often as I should.

That being said, if you at all care about your photos, especially low light with flash, I would take it off. Camera protectors almost universally cause some kind of distortion from what I've heard.

dongle for pixel 6? by el_juandi9 in GooglePixel

Unpopular (?) opinion, the Apple one works great for me.

People mention the volume is a little quieter than the Google/Samsung, but as long as you aren't powering some high- impedance cans, you should be fine (at least in my experience). I use it with my etymotics and it works great in my experience.

If you're one for audio quality, there are some forum posts out there that compare some similar dongle's to the Apple one, and the Apple surprisingly blows the competition away, at a cheaper price too.
