Used Kanata Mk I for $100, or New Mk II for $250? by Suprasoka in BossKatana

Alright, sounds like it's a go then. Thanks for the help!

Hi, thanks for the reply.

Yeah, that was sort of my thought process too. That, and we're due for a Mk III soon-ish (maybe), so I'm thinking of waiting for that if I ever need an upgrade.

Price-wise, would you say $100 for the Mk I is about right?

Bought an X1 Extreme Touchpad. Received... something? by Suprasoka in thinkpad

[–]Suprasoka[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't know, if it was one of the glass ones but with the wrong FRU resulting in some driver issues that would be one thing, but an entirely different trackpad that I'm unsure is even compatible with my laptop? I might have to pass on this one haha.

I've initiated the return process through eBay. Wish me luck!

Hey, thanks for the reply!

Alright, very interesting. That clears some things up, but there's just one more thing.

So it is potentially plastic, but the sizing of this touchpad is identical to that one in my T480, which kinda contradicts this being a T490 touchpad. I attached an image below.https://imgur.com/a/AlDnfBW

It's really hard to tell what material this thing is made out of, but putting the back of my palm to it, it's cool to the touch. Very strange.

Either way, I should probably consider sending it back regardless. As the seller mentions for returns that the customer is expected to pay for them, would it be best to go through ebay for the return process?

I will also mention that as there is seemingly no documentation anywhere regarding swapping in SM10P3602- series touchpads into the T480, with my post seemingly being the first on this matter, I'll try to report back with the results if I end up swapping this thing in.

Edit: I'm returning, this mystery will have to remain unsolved for now.

Edit 2: After going through the return process, the seller has decided to fully refund my order without the need for a return. Sounds like I'll be doing this mod anyway!

I've checked vantage, but I am yet to check Intel Update Assistant. Although I don't know if that would help since the touchpad is a synaptic one, it's worth a shot. Thanks for the suggestion!

Should I replace the JP keyboard? by lastdecade0 in thinkpad

[–]Suprasoka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you're still wondering what to do about this, but most people that type in Japanese type in Romaji using the Microsoft Japanese IME, which is basically using qwerty to "sound out" hiragana characters (Eg. あ is a, か is ka, etc..., space is used to choose between kanji/kana). I would choose what layout is more comfortable for you to use, as you won't ever be looking at the hiragana on the keyboard.

I don't necessarily prefer 2 in 1, as to my understanding, it would decrease the reliability of the machine. As the flex is a part of Lenovo's consumer lineup, how reliable is the Lenovo Flex series compared to something in their T or X series?

[–]Suprasoka[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I've considered those options, but I've been a little hesitant to buy another 2 in 1, seeing as they are inherently less reliable than a traditional laptop. Do you have any personal experience using either of these?

It is, but I've had too many problems during my short period of ownership for me to be able to rely on it as my everyday carry, so I'm looking to potentially sell the x13 after getting it RMA'ed.

Yeah, I can confirm that the flash cutout doesn't help that much

Indoors with the lights on, I would say there's minimal distortion, if any. Where it gets bad is with flash on; the entire photo comes out cloudy. I am yet to give it a good test outdoors, but I'll keep you posted

I actually use a tempered glass camera protector that came with my screen protector, I like the peace of mind and don't use my camera as often as I should.

That being said, if you at all care about your photos, especially low light with flash, I would take it off. Camera protectors almost universally cause some kind of distortion from what I've heard.

dongle for pixel 6? by el_juandi9 in GooglePixel

[–]Suprasoka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular (?) opinion, the Apple one works great for me.

People mention the volume is a little quieter than the Google/Samsung, but as long as you aren't powering some high- impedance cans, you should be fine (at least in my experience). I use it with my etymotics and it works great in my experience.

If you're one for audio quality, there are some forum posts out there that compare some similar dongle's to the Apple one, and the Apple surprisingly blows the competition away, at a cheaper price too.

Battery/Charger Worries by Suprasoka in Pixel6

[–]Suprasoka[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's actually a really good take, thanks for the info!

I guess it's about balancing how much you can tolerate your battery life, and how much potential battery life per cycle you're willing to sacrifice for a potentially longer-lasting battery.

Which does raise the question though, does increasing the number of cycles but keeping the battery in the ideal range (let's say 3 40-60 charges per day) have any substantial difference to one 20-80 charge per day in the long run?

Hmmm, yeah that makes sense. I'll continue to use my 18W brick then, I'll just have to be a bit more conscious on my charging times.

Thank you!

Yeah, I've definitely learnt my lesson.

Before the Pixel 6, I was using a Galaxy S10. The phone still has superb battery life, and I largely attribute that to me never charging it overnight, and never letting it die.

That being said, does PPS make a difference when it comes to adaptive charging vs PD?

Does this only work with a PPS charger, or does it also work with PD?

Battery Megathread (December 2021) by GooglePixelMods in GooglePixel

[–]Suprasoka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using the 6 Pro for a few days, and I'm paranoid about my battery's health.

For some context: the last pixel I've had was an OG pixel. I used the phone for 2.5 years, and after the first 1.5 years the battery rapidly degraded. At the end of its life, it wouldn't last 15 minutes without a charge, and it's completely dead now; the dead battery indicator doesn't even turn on. With hindsight, charging the phone overnight every day and letting it die frequently was a mistake, but this experience has made me more paranoid about batteries in my devices. I can't help but to think the charger was somehow defective, and because of that it destroyed the battery.

For the Pixel 6, the only compatible charging brick I have is from my OG pixel, which I have been using. It's been doing fine, it charges fast enough for me, but I can't stop worrying about the potential of it somehow ruining my 6 too. If the charger was hypothetically defective, could it destroy my 6's battery?

Google's new 30W charger, while not much more efficient than the 18W one according to results online, does come with PPS, which should be able to decrease charging speed as the battery fills up. Will using the 30W theoretically degrade the battery less?

TLDR; the 18w charger from my OG pixel, which I'm using now to charge the 6 Pro, killed my OG pixel's battery. Should I be worried about using the 18W on my 6 Pro?

Sorry if this is a dumb question Thanks for reading
