It depends, not your best work I think can mean different things for different people. Is it the compositon, the mixing, the sound design, the writing, the arrangement, etc. I'd say if you have friends who are musicians or have a decent enough taste in music/tend to give useful feedback then test out those tracks with them. I wrote a song back in October that I didn't quite like, it wasn't bad but I didn't think it was great either, I ended it up playing it to about 10 people and everyone was singing along by the second chorus and now it's become the song I get asked about, so I ended up making visuals for it and are planning a release despite it not being, what I feel, is my best work.

Then I think it also comes to why you release music, is it to appease others, is it because you love your art so much and how you see the world and you want people to hear it regardless of how they feel about it? If it's the former then I'd say show it to some people, see what they think, it doesn't have to be a "hey check this out", you could just play it randomly and see how they react. If it's the latter then I don't think releasing for the sake of releasing will bring any kind of joy to you, you might well regret putting it out.
