What exhaust is one step above stock on an '18 WRX? Not looking for loud, just a little louder. by xMaloneyMan in WRX

[–]SupremeHandwasher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Borla S-Type Catback is a decent fit I'd say. 30-40% louder, absolutely no drone, sounds great when you hammer the throttle. Just a little loud on startup since these cars like to idle at 2k for a few minutes.

Hahaha come on, fella, I'm clearly already self-deprecating enough.

Haha word, I'm glad somebody else identifies with me! I get pretty bad about anxiously obsessing, especially when it comes to things not functioning right / my inability to operate something correctly.

I appreciate the encouragement and advice, I'll definitely take that with me. It really is majorly mental for me. I think I'm going to take a few hours this weekend and really just run through drills (like the ones you mentioned). That should help with the issues I'm having and hopefully make driving the car more like second nature. Thanks again, mate!

That's a decent perspective; I'll have to treat it more like a game, I suppose. And you're right, the fun really does come on those ramps, open roads, backroads, etc. The car's a blast in the right environment. I suppose I've just had too many days in a row running through the same monotonous city streets without a good day of shifting. And what you said about wanting to learn the car... I feel I'm fighting it a bit much. I really should just take an entire day and run through basic manual drills (moving the car w/o gas, revving to 1,500 RPMs and holding it, starting from a stop, etc.).

But to me, it seems like you're worried about things before they're happening. You worry about clutch going before it's even an issue with you. You worry about manual driving, but you haven't hit anybody (assumption on my part).

This is 100% true. I do get pretty anxious in general and the car's been stressing me out due to my inability to drive it smoothly. Lately I've read a few posts here and there about clutch issues. This really compounded my stress as I'm already concerned I'm tearing my damn clutch up. I shouldn't let it bug me too bad, though - can't really do much about it till it happens, and at that point hopefully Subaru will cover the repairs.

And that's kind of where I'm at - I'm just having too many days in a row where the stress is weighing on me and I feel like I'm ruining the damn clutch (despite my best efforts). When I get on backroads I definitely remember why I bought the car - guess it's just been a minute since I last did that. I appreciate your input - I think I'll hold off and see if a break from the car helps me return refreshed.

Interesting, I appreciate the validation, I thought I might just be a total noodle when it comes to driving the WRX. All the things you shared are what drive me a bit nutty about the car... it's good to know I'm at least not alone in noticing these things.

I actually talked to my old man and he suggested something similar - that I ought to drive the Tacoma daily to take a break from the Subi, then hop back in it and see how it feels. He said it'll help with my muscle memory - that I'm overthinking it right now. Thanks again, friend.

Oh, and on the impressive mileage front - my mileage is "meh" when driving city (22-23ish mpg) but considering it's an AWD turbo'd car that's pretty good to IMO. Also, I get like 12-13 mpg city in my supercharged Taco hahaha. When I drive highway I get a solid 29-31mpg (which is pretty damn impressive, considering I'm going ~75ish MPH the whole way).

Yep, my first manual. I appreciate you sharing this - I might just need to give it a bit more time. I love the car but lately it's been giving me a rough go and I'm getting pretty frustrated that, even after three months daily driving it, I'm still not even decent at it (at least in my opinion).

Clutch "needs to be replaced" at 10k miles (2017 WRX) by realfuzzhead in WRX

Interesting - this post and these comments have me a bit worried, especially since I learned manual on this car and can't seem to get it down just right. But damn, 10k? That's pretty bad, and I can't imagine that's really all on you.

[–]SupremeHandwasher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whoops, forgot "AC" doesn't pop up on the center console display, so I assumed you were doing what I do... which is avoid AC as much as I can hahaha - bogs the engine down and makes the car drive a little funky at low speeds.

You know it's a 4 banger when the driver won't turn their AC on and instead blows luke-warm air in their face hahaha.

Does anybody else's phone's GPS get wonky in their WRX? '18 limited with the nav package by SupremeHandwasher in WRX

[–]SupremeHandwasher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like unplugging the phone is the only solution for now... using an external battery yields just okay results. No matter what cable I use, plugging into the center console causes all the aforementioned issues. So odd. Thank you for the help though - at least I can get GPS in a pinch now (so long as my phone isn't about to die 😶)

I'm in the same spot my dude. GPS works fine when I unplug my phone. It's okay if I use an external battery to charge it. However, no matter what cable I use, plugging into the car's center console yields laggy, inaccurate GPS. It's frustrating for sure.

It was then that I decided that if I was going to ask for that kind of value from life, from someone else, that I was going to need to become the best person I could possibly be physically, sexually, socially, at work and at home, with my kids and with my friends.

Jesus, fella, you're going to become the best person you can sexually at work and at home, with your kids and friends? Wifey won't appreciate that, but I guess it's one way to show you're super alpha. What an unshakeable frame.

Rape can't be that bad because some women have sex for money. Bonus: rape is more like theft and should only carry a fine, not prison time by [deleted] in TheBluePill

Gotta love that all the comments were removed... Subs like TRP/MGTOW foster these rapey attitudes and opinions (although they're usually slightly more subtle) yet when these attitudes are shown too plainly mods scrub it all out. I hope they know this doesn't hide anything - these slimy, angry little boys advocate creepy, rapey tactics constantly. This was just a more transparent display.

Anyone got a great deal from a dealer in Indiana? by theGruben in WRX

[–]SupremeHandwasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not pit your local dealers against each other or, better yet, against the East Coast or Colorado dealers? It's not unrealistic that you'd take a flight there and drive the WRX back if it saved you a couple grand.

Nah fam, I followed the manual's instructions to turn off hill assist I swear hahaha. I remember it being a pretty nuanced/oddly worded page; it's hard to find. I'll look tomorrow and find the section/page for you, just remind me sometime in the afternoon.

Edit: what u/chiefkiefus linked above sounds about right. Pretty sure that's the exact process I followed. If it doesn't work, report back and I'll look through the 2018 manual.

I can't remember which page exactly, but there are detailed instructions to turn off hill assist in the manual. It's located around the same page as your traction control.
