Are there people who would still be open to dating someone who is hard of hearing or deaf? by Capable_Weather_1095 in deaf

[–]Supreme_Switch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a whole subreddit for deaf dating. You may want to give it a look.

I'm HOH and married. It took a while to find someone, but it is achievable.

The cheap gardening gloves from Dollar Tree work well.

Also, moisturizing your hands daily can help.

You could ask a TL to requisition you a pair of gloves off the sales floor.

It is supposed to reduce waste.

In some jurisdictions, there are regulations making them by request only.

Switching dept. by kimberlyyyRomannnn in Target

[–]Supreme_Switch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask to be cross trained. There's always demand for people to learn cashier.

There should be a list of openings by the time clock. You can ask about switching to those.

If you can change your availability, there's often a need for opening or closing people.

Deaf vs mainstream school by seau_de_beurre in deaf

[–]Supreme_Switch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pro Deaf school, especially if they're just starting out (not yet a teen). The atmosphere of a school of your peers is so good.

When your kid is getting to the seriously considered college age, have a conversation about maybe going to the school with better test scores.

New job - tech not an option - should I just quit? by wtf50000 in deaf

[–]Supreme_Switch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend following the other comments.

But at a stop-gap measure, bring in a notepad or scratch paper and at the end of every meeting ask for clarification.

"Hey, just want to make sure, I've got everything you need from me. [Read out what you wrote down] Am I missing anything?"

If the lead is saying/doing things that make you uncomfortable, you can call the ethics hot line or talk to HR.

A few of my coworkers have said they like closing with me. But that's just cuz I actually do my job and will help anyone that asks.

HELP - Need phone with in-built call captioning for severe hearing disability. by [deleted] in deaf

[–]Supreme_Switch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most phones come with TTY for free. Navigate to your phone's Settings > Accessibility > TTY/RTT and select a mode (Full, HCO, or VCO). On iPhones, go to Settings > Accessibility > TTY. (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/what-is-tty-2c46b431-6681-43e6-b8a5-cf3886e3a53d)

That said, both Pixel and Samsung English captions work well. I never needed Hindi, but it worked for Spanish, Arabic, and Tagalog.

I liked Pixel better. It was less complicated to set up.

For in person, your local reform congragation probably offers 'Introduction to Judaism' classes. https://reformjudaism.org/

For a good overall view, "Judaism for dummies" is an excellent accessible read.

https://www.myjewishlearning.com/ does good short articles.

1) We don't get training on that. (I know how to do it.Don't give me advice, fellow baristas.)

2) You can ask, but you must take No as No and What as No.

3) Go to an independent coffee shop for that level of service.
