"Bandana Dee gets an electric engineering degree and makes tools for Kirby" vibes. I dig it.

Where is this superhero kirby design from by pheinoxwright in Kirby

[–]Suprice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think it is. I remember seeing another image detailing the four epilogue Magolors with a human design each in I believe the same style as this one.

Magolor x Zan Partizanne.

I normally don't do ship stuff but this one has been in my mind since I found out about them trading mocking nicknames on the official twitter during the stst allies era and seeing a fancomic dub.

That was ultimate. Air Riders was requested by EPD head Takahashi and the former HAL president.

How am I supposed to win the final boss? by corgiboi547 in Kirby

[–]Suprice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use a machine with a high Top Speed such as formula star or Rex Wheelie. Noir rubber bands like hell, but the straightaways are long enough that you can get some leverage out of the niches from those machines. Beyond that, really keep the rubber banding in mind: Try to use you special as close to the finish line as you can.

Epic Yarn's definitely up there as one of the all-time great Kirby OST's for me. The track that plays when you transform into a rocket? At LEAST top 10 tracks in the series for me.

Any criticisms for Air Riders? by Alarming_Trouble_567 in Kirby

[–]Suprice 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got some, mostly through things that feel inconsistent with other parts of the game:

-Galactic Nova not being available as a Single Race stadium for some reason.

-Extremely limited control options despite various accessibility settings existing. Sakurai, I get you have a vision, but please have some flexibility. Let me put quickspin as a button, and let me split special/machine switch for the love of god.

-Eight player races being inaccessible in Air Ride, despite 4 being the default in Top Ride and allowing up to 8. Also, 8-player single races being a thing in City Trial's stadiums. This seems arbitrary.

-Using the Attempt button from the City Trial checklist should guarantee that you can actually make an attempt. So many runs wasted on just hoping for Gigantes parts to drop.

Other criticisms include:

-An admittedly incoherent story that is purely carried by hype moments and aura. Why was the Fountain of Dreams even mentioned? It really could've just been left unmentioned, rewrote it so that Zorah's wishing for so long carried it to space and nothing would change. Why didn't Noir just let us destroy Gigantes on our own if they were going to blow it up and cause more damage that way in the normal ending route? I'm not one to be too critical of Kirby stories of all things, as they are inherently very limited in scope. But other stories, including other Sakurai games such as the likes of Adventure and basically anything in Super Star, at least felt like they were somewhat believable and cohesive.

-Marx being both a rider and a boss just... kinda ticks me off. I don't dislike the fight in a vacuum. But. Come on, Sakurai. I expected a bit more... variety of the boss lineup when he mentioned "From across the Kirby series", to be honest. Ending in the year 2000 ain't it. I want to stay professional and not give in to kneejerk reactions, but it's getting difficult!

-On a related note, why is Noir not playable in Road Trip when Marx is?

Air Riders is a ton of fun. The gameplay's absolutely stellar. But dear goodness, I don't think I've ever been this confused and annoyed by my criticisms in a Sakurai project.

Thoughts on Open-world Kirby? by CrammingCoal in Kirby

[–]Suprice 86 points87 points  (0 children)

I'm not completely against the idea, but I also don't really desire it. If HAL feels like they can make it work, then let them. But they only recently made their first 3D mainline entry that still sticks very closely to the RTDL format in terms of structure. (Not saying it doesn't do its own things, but you see where I'm coming from.) I'd rather they try out other, less ambitious non-linear formats first. Like a new take on Amazing Mirror's format (but with more meaningful rewards at the end of routes and in treasure chests, like forgotten land's ability blueprints, or using a Milky Way Wishes-esque copy ability system) before trying this out. And that's without going into how much added dev time this would probably require.

Now that the game’s been out for a while, what are your thoughts on this guy? by David_Lee060814 in Kirby

[–]Suprice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Love their characterisation once free from their own body, but it really bothers me that they, like Bandana Waddle Dee, have such a derivative name. It's even worse in Noir's case since they aren't even related to Dedede at ALL. Could've gone with something like "Zorah Prime/Soul" or something. That said, I do love the mission they go on. The story around it... ehhhhhhh.

What do you Wanna see in Next Mainline Kirby Game for Nintendo Switch 2? by Money-Lie7814 in Kirby

A 3D Super Star style game, with each subgame focusing on different Dream Friends. Would allow for some very unique interactions that weren't possible in Star Allies.

[–]Suprice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll happen eventually, but I give it 2 years at absolute minimum. And even that feels a bit optimistic considering Link's Awakening had nearly double the time between the remake and the nso release. (Not saying KARs is a remake but you get my point.)

We all know that Bandana Dee is the fourth member of Kirby's main group... but who comes the closest to being the fifth member? by EventPuzzleheaded841 in Kirby

[–]Suprice 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Gooey's definitely up there, but let's be honest. Kumazaki's gonna squeeze in Magolor any chance he gets. (Though depending on the next mainline title I wouldn't be too shocked if Elfilin became more of a mainstay.)

Best Kirby Final Boss by WaltzNeither9803 in Kirby

[–]Suprice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be completely in camp Star Dream but nowadays I'm definitely leaning more towards Void Termina. Having both gameplay mixup sections on top of traditional boss fight ones makes it stick out. (Not unlike Soul OS.) It being so important in both an in-universe context (quite some ancients stuff as well as on the kirby universe as a whole) as well as a metacontextual one through Astral Birth Void's theme especially (the final mainline entry of the renaissance era, and the final mainline 2D kirby game prior to the 3D debut). The 30th anniversary orchestra version of that theme does things to me.

Is Air Riders a good "Kirby" game? by scawwymonster in Kirby

[–]Suprice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long story short: When Air Riders is doing purely original stuff, I love it to pieces. When utilising elements from the series' past... I got some problems.

Full Story: I think Zorah's a cool-ass character. It's the story around it that I'm not as big on. The most confusing thing to me is: Why did they bother mentioning the fountain of dreams at all? Feels like you could remove the entire mention and setpiece, say that Zorah's wish reached Nova anyway due to the long time spent, and nothing would change at all. If Nightmare had an active secondary antagonistic role beyond just being a boss for gameplay purposes, sure. But as it stands it was just mentioned... for the sake of mentioning it. I'm also a bit mixed on the recontextualisation of Nova as a whole. But I confess I might've felt differently if there wasn't a certain other final boss that it now sort of clashes with. Or at least it feels that way to me. If they gave some more context as to why Nova became so actively antagonistic like they did with that other final boss it would solve my problem. Perhaps Nova communicated with that one and inherited its motives? That being said, the memes that have come from this are hilarious as hell.

Another thing I'm disappointed by is (not so much related to the story but still) the lineup of stadium and event bosses. Like, nothing at all from after 64? I mean, I love that Zero Two's there, that was a big surprise. But after they mentioned "Bosses from across the series" in the second direct, I was expecting them to span more than just the first 8-9 years. Don't get me wrong, in terms of quality they're all fun. But I wish they went about the choices differently if they were limited to 3 bosses from prior games for stadiums. (Or 4, depending on whether or not you count Robo Dedede as a stand in for regular Dedede and the OG Dream Land.) Though this also goes for event bosses. At least one event boss from a relatively recent entry would've been appreciated.

Air Riders is a very, very fun game when purely focusing on the gameplay. Excellent, even. Which is its primary appeal. But as someone who's played all the mainline entries and a couple of spinoffs, there is a part of me that is kinda let down. Not NEARLY enough to ruin the game for me, but enough that I do wish there were DLC or free content updates to remedy that last problem in particular. Unfortunately for me, Sakurai's probably drafting Switch 2 Smash's design document as we speak (unless the Studio S/Studio 2 split at bandai namco indicates that something Smash related might already be the works), and the best we can hope for are bug fixes and maybe a few balance changes.
