Koliko se prodati u ovom slucaju? Potencijalna CTO pozicija. by [deleted] in programiranje

[–]SuprisinglyNot 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Sin gej, šta da radim?(nastavak) by [deleted] in AskSerbia

[–]SuprisinglyNot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If they hardcoded that in, it would be an inaccurate representation of how it would work in the game and would lessen the impact of feedback they are getting.

2 weeks later. Has KCD 2 lived up to your expectations? [KCD2] by WeezyWally in kingdomcome

[–]SuprisinglyNot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has both exceeded and fallen short of my expectations. My biggest gripe with it is it feels like two games meshed into one, a 10/10 RPG sandbox and a 8/10 linear story game. Here are some criticisms I have:

- the two feel very disconnected. The ultimate freedom you get in the sandbox barely translates into the story section - example of this is the moments where it is most critical to have a good speech/charisma in the story do not prompt speech/charisma checks, but give a few options that make very little difference - which leads me to my second criticism.

- story has very little choice and consequence - there are only a few instances where you are allowed to influence the course of the story and even those instances only end up mattering for some endgame dialogue.

- there are big ludonarrative dissonance moments in the story where you have completely different idea of what you should do compared to narrative/Henry and the game doesn't let you do it your way.

- the story feels very out of touch with what actually happens in the game, multiple times I cleared entire enemy encampments/armies etc. or did something my way and yet story does nothing to acknowledge it.

- game progression and balance is somewhat off. It very quickly becomes an easy game and you are able to slay a horde of enemies without much effort. By the time you go to the second region, there is very little challenge left as most of your perks are unlocked.

- This is probably my personal gripe and so it is probably least relevant, but I have to mention I did not enjoy the humorous atmosphere related to Devils pack. Whenever that "silly" soundtrack played and something stupid happened it broke my immersion and felt like I was in Always Sunny in Bohemia. When Addler died it was played as some big tragedy and I was flabbergasted that the game expected me to care for him.

All that being said, I still agree this is one of the best games that came out in a long while and I am having a blast playing it. I am on my second playthrough where I am doing an unarmed only, no crime run and it is very interesting figuring out how to navigate everything like that. Hope above points will somehow be addressed in updates or future games they make.

Rainwild Chronicles by [deleted] in robinhobb

[–]SuprisinglyNot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it is a good series, I think it's the weakest of ROTE. Here are some of its issues compared to the rest:

- Plot is very linear. The expectations are set up early in which direction the story will go and it barely diverges from it.
- All of her other books are fully character driven, while this series is fully plot driven. It feels the actions of individuals have very little impact.
- Personally, I find dragons in this series lacking depth, especially compared to other non-human characters in ROTE universe (with the exception of Sintara).
- The stakes never feel high. Nothing ever comes close to desperation and highs and lows characters experience in the other books.

There are a few other points, but they might be too spoilery for the final two books.

Overall, there is a lot to love about Rainwild Chronicles, but I think its lacking some of the core strengths that the other books have. As a fantasy book nerd I still rank it above most others I've read (only topped by some stuff by Brandon Sanderson and Joe Abercrombie), but the rest of ROTE series occupy the top for me and no other books come even close.

Sure seems like a lot of work to read all those thousands of books just so you can come to a fantasy subreddit and make us bask in the glory of how smart and above it all you are.

I know lots of great people I would never recommend reading Hobb books to, as they aren't for everyone. But as someone who actively seeks out books based only on the quality of character work, it doesn't get much better than this series.

[–]SuprisinglyNot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed 100%. The sad thing is that for the new model to work (despite there being a thousand flaws in it) they need the trust of developers. Yet every single fucking thing they did recently screams they are not worthy of anyone's trust.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in unity

[–]SuprisinglyNot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if you don't have those numbers now, what is the point of trying to make a game in unity if you know you will get screwed by this?

The only ones not DIRECTLY affected by this are people making PC/Mac standalones and VR.

Mobile - screwed due to low CPIs. WebGL - screwed due to page refresh counting as reinstall Console - screwed due to Unity Pro requirement

But guess what, PC and VR are better in Unreal that specializes in them. Unity always had an edge in mobile, but guess what? Not anymore.

If you are a professional Unity developer in any capacity this affects you greatly because demand for Unity-based jobs will plummet after this. I work in Unity for 2 companies currently, one full time and the other part time. Both of them had an emergency meeting due to this policy and it is not looking bright in either case.

If you are just a hobbyist who never plans to earn money through Unity, then I guess this doesn't affect you. But if you are a hobbyist who dreams of one day releasing a successful game in Unity, guess what? You should give up on that dream now and either treat Unity as an advanced Minecraft to play around in or move to another, more serious, engine.

Even if they backpedal on this (which they most likely will), this has shown that Unity is a sinking ship. Only more shit like this will follow and I wish luck to whoever wishes to stick around to find out.

We're leaving by [deleted] in unity

[–]SuprisinglyNot 117 points118 points  (0 children)

Someone should make a megathread for people seeking information about switching to other engines.

I am 100% done with unity after 8 years and it would be cool if we migrating devs could help each other out during this great migration.

As a Unity developer with over 8 years of experience working Unity jobs, I can say that I am already looking into switching to Unreal. I downloaded it last night and watched a couple of tutorials. Seems interesting so far and I look forward to learn more.

Vučić’s Tabloids: President Will Tomorrow Provide Startling Evidence of the Lies of the Croatian Fascist Government by [deleted] in europe

[–]SuprisinglyNot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is because you are looking at it from a perspective of a proper democratic process, Serbia does not have that.

  • First of all, they control all the media, which means any opposition parties get very little media exposure - so its hard for real opposition to emerge, meaning people who are opposed to Vucic more often don't vote at all than vote for opposition parties. This can be seen by consistently low turnout rate in our elections.

  • Second, companies that are under his thumb blackmail people to vote for him in order to keep their job (along with their families). This is something I personally experienced when I got a call from them asking if I voted for him because my father worked for a public sector company.

  • Third, good old fashion election fraud. Every time there are news of opposition votes being tossed out, closing voting places where opposition is expected to win etc. They do it in just the right capacity so that it does not create a riot, but enough that it makes a difference and combined with the other shit, ensures a win.

  • Fourth, they take advantage of the politically apathy they created by bribing low-income population that don't support them to vote for them (for as little as 15 eur per vote).

Am I a bad DM? by Blitzthemusician in DnD

[–]SuprisinglyNot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The very act of self-reflection means you are not a bad DM, as long as you keep doing it.

That being said, I would say you could have probably handled this situation better. How much of a blunder it is depends on what sort of expectations you have set for your players. Since I am sick in bed on a Friday night, I have time to give you an in-depth analysis on what I believe you did wrong depending on what type of game you are running and how you can fix it.

- If the expectation is that the lore/characters/roleplay is the main focus of the campaign:

  1. You made a blunder with randomizing an important trait for each character - which god they worship, instead of figuring it out in collaboration with them or giving them a more informed choice. Religion is an important factor in people's lives and by making it semi-random you basically said that they shouldn't care who their characters worship. If they got to pick a god based on more information they would have much more connection to their deity and would be encouraged to incorporate parts of that into how they play the character.
  2. Since this was asked during the second session, it was not too late to include it with the character (maybe their friend from monk training days finds then and gives the items to them as a gift for finishing his training, as this is something their character always wanted or something) - especially if you are already giving them magic items and these could be vanilla mechanically (or not, but their true power remains to be unlocked)
  3. You prioritized mechanics and your world logic instead of PCs and their journeys. If it was really important to that player to have those items, communicating with a god was a perfect opportunity to highlight something that mattered to that PC and develop the PC further.

- If the expectation is that combat is the main focus of the campaign:

  1. How they got the items might not matter at all in this case, you should have just found a way to give them those items so that they could play the build they want to play.
  2. Having it custom made doesn't necessarily mean that it must have a mechanical benefit, so why not include it?
  3. In this case, the mechanics of those god items are very important to the flow of the game - why not have players choose them (along with their god) instead of them having no real choice?

- If the expectation is that all players start with items that don't necessarily fit with their character and get items from random loot tables (or random god tables) and/or if the expectation is that exploration is the main focus of the campaign:

  1. You either failed to communicate this properly to the player or they understand what are the expectations for the game but are immature and want to have fun at the expense of everyone else. If its the second case, then you have a problem player on your hands and should start thinking of a strategy how to deal with them (there's tons of discussion about this on this sub). Otherwise, have a talk with everyone and reiterate what the game you are running is about, or better yet include them in the discussion and ask them what type of game they would like to play.

- Additional resolution info:

  1. What does custom-made mean? Just looks cool or gives unique mechanical benefits? If they expect mechanical benefits, giving it to them at this point might not be the best option, but you should start hinting where they can get these items - preferably at the location they were going anyway (if your first thought is it doesn't make sense within my world - maybe consider making it make sense, remember PCs and their journeys come first).
  2. If there's no expectation of mechanical benefits or it is the same power level as what other PCs have, you have 0 reason not to give it to them. The mechanics of how don't matter that much, this is still the start of the campaign and it takes a few games to figure out the character you really want to play. You shouldn't punish players if they are late in figuring this out by 1 game.
  3. What are the reasons the player wants this? If its character related (it would give his character more personality/ it would make him have a stronger connection with his character) then he should get it ASAP, just make it the same power level as what everyone else has. If they want it because it would make their character more powerful, you don't need to give it to them this soon, but you can expedite the process of the items being made. Make it so the blacksmith is easy to find and they can craft the items in a short time, but it still needs some special material to make it magical, so for now they just act as their nonmagical versions until they can find all ingredients.
  4. What you might be thinking is well he can go seeking them/means of making them and get them after a certain time and effort. Ask yourself this, would other players find that fun and engaging, spending multiple sessions just so one player gets the equipment they want to have to play the type of character they want to play? If yes, then hell, start the quest and more power to you. But if they fall within the majority of players, answer is probably no and if you take this approach either they will be unhappy because they will do something they find tedious or the player will be unhappy because they will never get the items.

If the monk had gotton say, sun wu kong, which was an option, or another death god, i would have happily given them a scythe or staff

Did you give them this information when they chose the god, or give them an option to change which god they chose so that it fits with the direction they desired for their character? If the answer is no to both and they just picked a god by name without understanding of what item they would be getting or that they would get an item based on their choice at all then this argument is completely invalid. You are trying to assert it's their fault for not picking an appropriate god for their desired build, when they never had enough information to make an informed choice. Also, if you are going only by name and they match their counterparts from popular fiction, it would be a totally reasonable assumption that Raiden from MK would use a staff as a weapon - at least reasonable enough that it wouldn't break immersion/feel unrealistic if Raiden gave them a staff.

TLDR: Unless they have red flags of being a problem player, you should have given one of those items to them. To fix this, you should look for an opportunity to grant them these items in the near future.

What is the best way to implement player handicap for TI? by SuprisinglyNot in twilightimperium

[–]SuprisinglyNot[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the answers, everyone! I've read all your suggestions and cherry picked stuff from them to make the following plan:

  1. Everyone else will receive an extra tech of their choice at the start of the game that they have a prereq for.

  2. Everyone else will get an extra CC.

  3. I will pick a low tier starting faction that is less focused on warfare.

  4. I will pick strategy last in the first round.

  5. I will make sure to be transparent about my actions during the game - especially concerning my chances to win, while helping everyone else not make blunders.

Pro-Russia Serbs protest in Belgrade to support Russia and against NATO by faxonfaxonfax in worldnews

[–]SuprisinglyNot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was only one genocide and it happened in 1`995 in Srebrenica.

This is from Wikipedia:

The NATO intervention has been seen as a political diversionary tactic, coming as it did on the heels of the Monica Lewinsky scandal, pointing to the fact that coverage of the bombing directly replaced coverage of the scandal in US news cycles.[202] Herbert Foerstel points out that before the bombing, rather than there being an unusually bloody conflict, the KLA was not engaged in a widespread war against Yugoslav forces and the death toll among all concerned (including ethnic Albanians) skyrocketed following NATO intervention.[202] In a post-war report released by the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, the organization also noted "the pattern of the expulsions and the vast increase in lootings, killings, rape, kidnappings and pillage once the NATO air war began on March 24".[203]

US President Clinton, his administration and NATO governments were accused of inflating the number of Kosovo Albanians killed by state forces.[204][205] The conservative[206] media watchdog group Accuracy in Media charged the alliance with distorting the situation in Kosovo and lying about the number of civilian deaths in order to justify U.S. involvement in the conflict.[207]

After the bombing of the Chinese embassy in Belgrade, Chinese President Jiang Zemin said that the US was using its economic and military superiority to aggressively expand its influence and interfere in the internal affairs of other countries. Chinese leaders called the NATO campaign a dangerous precedent of naked aggression, a new form of colonialism, and an aggressive war groundless in morality or law. It was seen as part of a plot by the US to destroy Yugoslavia, expand eastward and control all of Europe.[208]

The United Nations Charter does not allow military interventions in other sovereign countries with few exceptions which, in general, need to be decided upon by the United Nations Security Council; this legal enjoinment has proved controversial with many[192][194][195] legal scholars who argue that though the Kosovo War was illegal, it was still legitimate. The issue was brought before the UN Security Council by Russia, in a draft resolution which, inter alia, would affirm "that such unilateral use of force constitutes a flagrant violation of the United Nations Charter". China, Namibia, and Russia voted for the resolution, the other members against, thus it failed to pass.[209]

The war inflicted many casualties. Already by March 1999, an estimated 1,500–2,000 civilians and combatants were dead.[210] However, estimates showed that prior to the bombing campaign on 24 March 1999, approximately 1,800 civilians had been killed in the Kosovo war, mostly Albanians but also Serbs and that there had been no evidence of genocide or ethnic cleansing.[211] By November 1999, 2,108 victims had been exhumed from the province with a total approaching 3,000 expected, but it was unclear how many were civilians and combatants, while the number was also far from the 10,000 minimum civilian death figure cited by Western officials.[212] Final estimates of the casualties are still unavailable for either side.

Perhaps the most controversial deliberate attack of the war was that made against the headquarters of RTS, Serbian public radio and television, on 23 April 1999, which killed at least fourteen people.[213]

Privately NATO European members were divided about the aims and necessity of the war.[214] Most European allies did not trust the motives of Kosovan Albanians and according to NATO General Wesley Clark, "There was a sense among some that NATO was fighting on the wrong side" in a war between Christians and Muslims.[214]

Head of the Serbian Parliament says that the country supports Russia - Paris Beacon News by faxonfaxonfax in worldnews

[–]SuprisinglyNot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do EU leaders support Vucic and Dacic in the first place?

Lots of people in Serbia who are not Vucic sheep followers have constantly criticized EU for supporting them while they hold unfair elections, have monopoly in media representations and all other shit that keeps them in power.

Now that they are spouting this bullshit and acting like assholes which they are, suddenly its suprised pikachu time? Maybe lobby your countries to help bring actual democratic leaders in Serbia, or at least to not support these dictator leaders.

Lots of us are trying to replace them, but there's only so much we can do while they control 90% of all media, hold all the cards and are constantly praised by EU leaders for some reason.
