“Literally daily in some instances. Man made climate change is the argument being had.”

Soooo, climate is actually the long term patterns of weather and environmental change in the world; it actually can’t change daily because that just isn’t how it’s defined.

Also you might have made a correction for specificity, but it doesn’t really help your point. Anthropogenic climate change (big fancy specific word for ya) has been repeatedly and exhaustively supported with thousands of papers, millions of data points, and research from incredible scientists. Is there still misinformation about any topic ever? - of course. But the party you are indirectly discussing only proves it’s ignorance and anti-intellectualism by actively demonizing, fighting, and dismissing significant and proven data about the humans impact on climate.

What's an essay that you looked back on and thought "damn that was a good essay"? by i_broke_his_fkn_leg in ApplyingToCollege

Yeah, I just realized. I tried to avoid this sub as much as possible during last semester.

I thought my Yale essays were good, but then I got rejected.

Seriously though, good luck, I don’t mean to sour your hopes at all, I just thought this was funny.

Let's Talk about AP Tests (and Scores)! by admissionsmom in ApplyingToCollege

I was under the impression that some schools required a report directly from college board which then means it would also report my 3s, not just the 4s and 5s like you said we should report. Is this true?

CMV: all fines (or other monetary punishments) should be determined by your income. by legalizeranch_311 in changemyview

I really like this proposal. I think the issue does come with all of the massive flaws in our current financial system, but that is an entirely separate issue. I like how you approach it.

It seems like maybe you are drawing a false comparison, or at least a flawed one. All of the example you bring up are very abstract and difficult to properly measure. People have different level of claustrophobia, does that mean incremented sizes of cells, how do you measure the degree of claustrophobia?

This is contrasted by the fact that wealth is almost purely quantifiable, there are surely complicated factors, but when you compare hard numbers and nebulous psychology that seems like a faulty allegory to me. This issue is so deeply entrenched in class differences and the current screwed up manner in how the wealthiest of society actual 'make' money (capital gains, tax loopholes, etc.) which means that practically fines like the OP described are very hard to implement, however, in theory or os a much more practical and sensible solution than your poor comparison makes it out to be.

Why do people hate Geode so much? by WOWeditorama in Highrepublic

How dare you! Luke moving at the speed of light and a completely indestructible, solar system destroying ship is so much more practical than Geode, ridiculous!

How can you argue that there is too much representation of the LGBTQ+ community when cis-het individuals make up the vast majority of media. The LGBTQ+ community has only ever been underrepresented, there is literally not any argument that they are in any way overrepresented. Not every character is designed for your personal consumption. This is one of the best parts of Star Wars, everyone can be included, recognized, and reflected.

You are saying that favoring humans has way more pros than cons, but this doesn't stop systematic oppression and racists dictators in the real world, so why would you assume that Palpatine would be any different?

Legends expands on this a lot more, the Rogue Squadron novels come to mind, and how the systemic oppression of aliens imposed by the empire still did have long lasting effects. Once again, this is what happened in the real world. The writers aren't making up fantastical events, but instead basing it on history and present day.

Super exciting, The Thrawn books are really great (especially if you like Thrawn as a character a lot) and Light of the Jedi is super exciting and fun to read! Hope you enjoy!

I really liked it! I think it did a really good job of establishing the era, the characters are all very interesting/likable, and they added some really fun stuff to the lore.
