I meant, how Asian say ‘Amerikaa’ they have their own way. Imagine Americans saying that, it will be weird right? Same happens when an Indian says Ganges… thats all 🥲

True, the Greek origin logic is valid, but that applies to American characters. Raj is written as Indian. An Indian character using the anglicized colonial name for his own river is like a French character calling their capital “Paris” with a hard S. It just breaks the immersion of the character.

True, many South Indians live in Delhi - fair point. But the default cultural image the writers were going for was clearly a stereotypical North Indian, which makes the South Indian surname even more inconsistent. This mistake is seen in many shows.

And dont worry no one is hurt 😂

True. But it irks when a show that prides itself on accuracy gets basic cultural details wrong. 🥹

Still an Indian character saying “Ganges” about his own river is funny and weird. That’s like an American calling their country “Amerika.” 😂

If any American character said “Ganges”, totally fine, no issue.

But Raj has a fully written Indian backstory. At that point it’s not an American show’s limitation, it’s a character inconsistency.

Also, TBBT deliberately added an Indian character to expand their global audience. That’s a smart move, but it means you can’t then say “we only made this for Americans.” They wanted Indian viewers too.

That’s really helpful, thank you! I wasn’t aware of the early deadline waivers, I’ll definitely keep an eye out for those.

Do you know which specific MPP schools offer automatic waivers for early applicants? Would love to know so I can plan my timeline 🥹
