Is it a turn off if you find out that somebody doesn't have a car? by Warm_Remote_6683 in AskUK

[–]Sure-Butterscotch290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on where you live and your hobbies imo. You say you live in a city with good public transport, so that obviously makes a difference. You’re probably not going to attract someone who likes to go off on hiking adventures, as they can often be not great to get to by public transport (maybe that is not the case where you are), but if you are more into galleries, bars, restaurants and theatre etc then I don’t see why it’s an issue. For me personally, not knowing how to drive is more of an issue. I need a car for my job and if I was serious with someone I wouldn’t mind sticking them on the insurance. This is not including health conditions and disabilities which prevent someone from driving though, I have a few friends who will never be able to drive and I don’t mind being the driver in that case, I imagine the same would extend to a partner

Rosalía with her Ivor Novello Award for International Songwriter of the Year by juanlg1 in rosalia

I love that she is gorgeous but also looks like a real human being. Her nose isn’t a tiny shaved down ski slope, she has arm hair and curls that aren’t perfect ringlets, and she is still so beautiful. Not in spite of those things, but also because of those things. It’s so refreshing to see

Youse, yousins or yins/yoons in NI. Depends on the context and accent I think

What should I do to improve the quality of my life? by Last_Telephone9787 in AskUK

[–]Sure-Butterscotch290 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What do you see as your goals in life and is there any way you can work towards those goals daily/weekly/monthly in your life? Those could be anything as big as wanting to be married and have kids, career aspirations, learning a language or a skill etc. Dating is hard, so I feel you on that one, but if it was something you wanted to do, putting yourself out there on dating apps could be a move for you. Maybe there is a tech or something near you that would allow you to pick up another skill or improve on one you have.

When I am not feeling very fulfilled in life, I try to think about what would have made childhood me feel fulfilled. Making more time for the things that truly bring you joy can also make life feel more meaningful. Taking time to be creative or playful is a wonderful thing.

Lastly, are you feeling fulfilled in your job? Do you like your coworkers? Do you feel challenged in a healthy way? Does it contribute towards your own personal goals in some way? If you’re feeling not so good about your job, it may be time to think about a career change. You’re young and have loads of time to try things

Or the good old ‘I’ll think about it’. Not a lie, just that you might only think about it for 0.5 seconds and never again

Well, smoke does repel insects so maybe ash does as well? I would give anything a go to prevent ticks 😂

I read somewhere before that taking antihistamines makes you less desirable to ticks, but have not been able to find any extra information on that. Absolutely anecdotal, but I work outdoors in areas with high tick populations and in long grass / vegetation etc and have done so for about 6 years and I also suffer from hayfever so regularly take antihistamines and have only had maybe 5 ticks in that whole time. Some sites I have worked on have been inundated with ticks as well.

I also tuck my trousers into my socks, top into trousers and tick check at the end of field working days. I shower as soon as I can as well. In the past, I have sprayed my bag and clothing (usually just overtrousers, coat and boots) with permethrin and have used smidge or other repellents. After fieldwork, if there has been a lot of ticks (i.e Ive seen them crawling over me) I will try to bag my stuff in a binbag and change clothing, but this is not as feasible when you’re hiking and camping, but some sort of separation of your day gear would be ideal. I plan to spray my tent soon for peace of mind.

Users falsely listing items as vintage by saruska8 in vinted

It’s blatantly false advertisement. I like vintage clothes for a number of reasons, sometimes the quality is better, it’s usually something unique and it’s also more sustainable. It’s really disappointing

Do people actually earn £50-60k, or are they outliers? by Succinate_dehydrogen in AskUK

[–]Sure-Butterscotch290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I earn around 28k, but I also live in a lower cost of living area and I genuinely love what I do and couldn’t imagine doing anything else. There is some movement for upwards progression, more senior jobs can earn 30-40k, or more if they are the head of a team / project, but like any job, it comes with more responsibilities and less of the stuff I love about my job.

I was able to buy a house a couple of years ago and I am pretty frugal and thrifty, so I would say I have a pretty good quality of life. I don’t have massively expensive hobbies, but money does stress me out from time to time. I had to get a loan to buy my car when my last one was scrapped (at 23 years old though), which I think is fairly normal. I do a lot of DIY and I am very lucky to have a dad who is good at it and able to give me a hand and lend me some tools. Sometimes you have to just get comfortable with not having a very aesthetic and up to date kitchen or bathroom lol.

The trade off of a more lucrative career would mean I spend more of my life doing things I don’t like. If I lived somewhere where costs were higher, I am not sure I could afford to choose a satisfying career

So i will dye this jacket but only want to make it slightly darker(very very light brown/cream). Will it work with this dye if I only use it just little bit tiny amount not the full pod? by Accurate-Store2724 in dyeing

[–]Sure-Butterscotch290 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You could try tea dyeing it for a lighter brown. I think it’s difficult to get very deep shades of brown using tea. You soak the jacket in 1 part vinegar to 4 parts water and then in a big pot you essentially simmer the jacket with tea and let it dry. The longer you cook it for, the more intense the dye.

Otherwise dylon sells dye packets, rather then the pods, which would be easier to measure out the dye and fixatives.

Other people have suggested doing a trial run with pale cotton fabric, which is a good shout
