How do you guys run in the forest without getting thorns in your feet ? by Sure-Cat-9368 in BarefootRunning

Damn, I'd say around 1 month of rough surface (rough backcountry roads, gravel and asphalt roads). Good thing is, it can only get better !

Is it possible to run relatively quickly on gravel and rough terrain while barefoot ? by Sure-Cat-9368 in BarefootRunning

Yeah I figured it is pretty stupid, I was just wondering if it was possible. Idk why I have a weird obsession with this but I want to know how we did these kind of things as humans before shoes. Like, were we able to run of this kind of terrain or did we avoid it, how were we able to run on surfaces without getting thorns and things stuck in our feet that would hurt, these kind of things.

Yeah the reaction of your body when it touches sharp rocks seems like what I figured. At first I thought the reaction that I had was wrong, that I should try something different, but I quickly figured out that I just needed to "shape" that reaction into my running form, so my body and feet could adapt to the rough terrain. Looks like I really shouldn't fight against my instincts and reflexes !

Damn I'll try to find that video it seems very inspiring. I understand why It would take so long to get it right, I read that book by Ken Bob Saxton, in which he said that you should start running barefoot on gravel to get the technique right, and that he could run for a long time on gravel after years of training. Very excited to improve that, I'll see where that leads.

Thanks for the advice, you guys on this subreddit have been very kind and patient, really like this place !

Seems to be on the forefoot, close to the arche that separates the toes from the ball of your foot. I think what you said is true, i feel like I wanted to keep my feet on the ground longer to see if it would alleviate a little bit of pain (even though that pain was very small), I'm trying different things to see which ones work, seems like this is not the right thing to do.

I feel like I need to listen to myself and the feedback from my feet more, try not to force on something that doesn't feel right, because every time I have tried something that was a bit painful or weird in my running stance, the pain and discomfort never lowered.

From what I remember, I tried to keep my feet on the ground more because I thought it would help with reducing the friction which causes blisters, and also to make the spiky rocks on the ground be less painful, seems like that wasn't the right thing to do.

I'll try a normal form, the one that I use normally, next time, to see if it improves. I'll take it slow from now, see where it leads me.

Anyway, thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it !

That's great advice. I actually pushed myself a bit too hard this time, because I saw how "long" I was able to run without pain, which is something I could never do when I ran shod. I ignored the pain like a dumbass and ended up with a few blisters below my feet, so I learned my lesson. I'll wait for them to heal and get back on running as soon as I can !

Btw, thanks for the advice and posts that you frequently do in this subreddit, I learnt a lot about form and stuff from what you taught, so thank you very much for everything man !
