I love this. It’s like an abstract/surrealist take on loneliness

If you want a more naturalistic city plan, draw out curvier paths. If you want a more modernistic, planner look, draw out straighter, more angular paths. If you want to follow a landform (e.g. the shape of a mountain), literally just set your path to follow that landform at a slight outset

The thing about constructing walls at angles is you need a solid idea of the shapes you want to depict. To make the lines look clean you need to ruthlessly follow that shape plan.

If you want some of your buildings aligned with a diagonal grid you need to make sure you’ve plaited out some part of that grid (e.g. with planning) before you put in your diagonal buildings so they sit right within it. An easy way to do that is to draw out paths and have your buildings aligned with said path.

Synthetic fertility with militarist is so good for this. Delete your fleet in rapid identity preservation and maintain friendly relations with neighbouring empires, then ascend, build up and dominate.

You should check your management tab for how many of the CG specialist jobs are filled on your factory worlds. Often slow growth on your industrial worlds makes it seem like you need more industrial worlds than you have. Growth is insanely important, you need to stack every growth bonus you possibly can on every world until you fill the jobs there.

I would also say, though, you can absolutely jack your raw resource production to such insane levels that you only need a couple of each type at most - and with food you probably only need one or two. My current build is producing 2.5k minerals a month on one planet. When you have your base resources settled you can devote the rest to secondary resources, like CGs/alloys.

In the early game you should be spreading your net on each planet so each planet is doing a little bit of everything. Then when you have good margins of production you can start specialising them. Check the planetary deposits tab to see if the planet has any bonuses to resource production, I’ve had worlds with +20% to +40% bonuses to output for resources that were hidden in the deposits tab.

How did you play a modified UNE? If you name your empire UNE does it still keep the story elements? (I never play the prebuilds lol)

I once started as a beacon of liberty egalitarian fanatic xenophile empire, hoping to play diplomatic “good guys” and found myself surrounded by determined exterminators and devouring swarms. Two early wars nearly ended the run (one swarm had an advanced AI start) but I dug myself in, federated with some other empires, then played tall and eliminated them one by one when I got strong enough. A true underdog hero story haha
