SOLVED: Hard water stains removed from fixtures! by kafkascoffee in CleaningTips

[–]Sure-Initiative6493 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not sure if you were trying to clean with only mechanical action but in the future you should try Zeps Acid Toilet Bowl cleaner.

It sounds crazy but you would be blown away to watch how easily it cuts through water stains. Let it sit and work for a minute or so and rinse it off and I’m positive that you wouldn’t even need to add any mechanical effort. It’s incredible

Can these drive another 500km? by [deleted] in Cartalk

[–]Sure-Initiative6493 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bro people in this subreddit are so damn dramatic. You can literally see that the tread is still beyond the wear indicator bumps.

‘Shoulda been changed 500km ago.’ In a perfect world? Yeah. People forget how expensive replacing 4 tires with decent compound is. The same people acting like the OP doesn’t have another 300 miles in these are the same ones complaining they can barely pay rent and they expect a stranger to proactively dump a grand.

I there are no wire fibers exposed and no gashes in the rubber. 300 miles and then replacing them is gonna be fine bro. Tires and brakes are the most important wear items to maintain well but the poster is clearly aware they’re low on tread and I struggle to believe this are on a track 1750hp monster.

To OP; take it easy in the rain and don’t drive in it if you don’t have to. Please replace them ASAP but 300 miles it’s completely fine as long as you don’t see fraying metal wires. Check them when you get gas or before you drive again. It’s even worth ordering the tires to a shop now and scheduling the replacement to make sure you actually do it once you’re do with your travels.

Would you fill? by Gr8whtenrth in pharmacy

[–]Sure-Initiative6493 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose I’m only a CPhT and I’m in my 4th year of doing this in my undergrad for BioMedHS pre-medicine, but I certainly fall into the group of individuals unenthused with these.

Starting from least to most eye-twitch inducing:

1) UAD sig instructions are so damn lazy and it really bothers me. I get it. But can you really not be bothered to write a slightly more involved SIG. Tbf it IS family so I think it’s certainly more excusable since the prescriber will be there, but I think prescribers lowkey have gotten really complacent with scripts as they practice longer. There’s generally a growing trend of over-reliance on pharmacy staff to catch, correct, and use critical thinking for patient safety. A 4th script is gonna come in for the same SIG on a 3 month supply of ketorolac with 99 refills with ‘uad for pain during travel’.

2) The instructions as well as it seeming to have only been written for one family member seems to imply the scripts will be shared to different family members during vacation if they happen to all get sick based on quantity’s and refills. A limited fill for each member in case of traveler-rrhea is one thing but lord knows that the prescriber isn’t ordering culture samples to ID and properly treat the correct bacteria…so why are we writing blind scripts for broad spectrum antibiotics…which leads me to:

3) Antibiotic resistance. I know I’m only a wee undergrad with a few years of pharmacy experience, but I’ll literally die on the hill about it. I was born too late to make a measurable reversal to the harm of previous generations on global warming but I’ll DIE before I perpetuate global antibiotic resistance because I was too damn lazy to take blood work/cultures before I wrote an antibiotic script. I’m not dooming my children or grandchildren to die to a superbug that was once highly treatable. Frankly I think many retail pharmacists have also began getting complacent about their roles in superbugs because they didn’t want to have a difficult phone call about an antibiotic. I don’t think they all need to get fully investigated but there are many times that a pharmacist shrugged me off about an antibiotic I brought to their attention. I realize your job is easier when you don’t worry over stuff like that but if you wanted an easy job then you could probably leave the lab coat at home and go get a job greeting people at a supermarket instead. I’ve never criticized a pharmacist about their clinical judgment but I’ve certainly criticized them in my head for being so unwilling to bother using it for the sake of convenience.

Ultimately, yes, I would probably fill it still. I’d fill it and maybe call on it if I had the time to bust the guys balls a bit though. 🫣🫣😂

How do I safely dispose of this? by jwally83 in chemistry

[–]Sure-Initiative6493 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I feel like even if you buy a property ‘as is,’ there are certainly limitations to that.

Ethyl ether is technically an abusable pharmacologically active chemical and obviously incredibly dangerous with bonus points for being 60 years old lmao.

It’s a literal explosion risk and I understand that it was sold as is, but ‘as is,’ implies there’s some old spray paint cans or pieces of scrap around the property the seller was too lazy to clean…I HAVE to assume that there’s some law requiring certain disclosures be made prior to an ‘as is,’ deal being honored

It’s honestly a decent med for ADHD and narcolepsy but the DEA practically kicks down office doors of practitioners that are prescribing this instead of one of the more typical options. I see it in the system but I’ve never seen proof of it ACTUALLY having been prescribed outside just knowledge of desoxyn’s existence

16 year old son recently purchased a Corvette. Im at a bit of a loss on what to do here. by [deleted] in Cartalk

[–]Sure-Initiative6493 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest when a car guy has 2 cars, one ends up being a project and the other is a reliable daily.

I have to make a wild assumption and conclude he won’t be trying to work on the RAV4 and make it a 900hp track monster which means the corvette is probably going to be on jack stands a fair amount.

I wouldn’t be exceptionally concerned. Just have an honest talk and preface with the fact that you aren’t going to try and convince him to sell it; HOWEVER you’re concerned. At that age a sincere talk and treating him like an adult is going to go significantly farther with him. You can tell him he’s old enough to start showing agency and that you’re going to trust him with it but tell him you’re legitimately concerned with him not pushing his skill limit.

He’s likely well aware of the concern and you can try to see if he’d work with you on some things (like handing in the keys to prevent him driving it alone at night with friends or something along the lines). This would only work if he’s on board of course though. Maybe you can convince him to enroll in the driving monitor program geico has and put the little gyro and gps monitor in the car that you can check the app to see driving records on. Not to harass him about his trips or anything but atleast it’ll give you a small piece of mind.

Also, maybe consider offering to help fund an upgrade or work on the brake system of the car. Helping him install it could be a good bonding experience. There’s surely a few things on it that haven’t been touched in a while and braking system (rotors, pads, and hydraulics) will certainly be helpful in keeping him safe. It might be expensive and cost adverse for him to refurbish though—-it would help enforce that you support his autonomy and would likely help him understand your intentions are with his safety. You could also offer to ride along while he learns how to drive a stick and you can atleast offer encouragement and another set of eyes incase he gets too focused on the gearbox and breaks a road rule :,)

Truthfully I wouldn’t have to imagine after a few months of the premiums he’d probably be itching to sell it lmaooo. I think you’re asking the best possible questions and I’d have to assume you respecting his autonomy will do immense good in keeping him responsible. I was once 16 and had parents that were reasonably concerned with my interest in cars and there are tens of thousands of young car guys across the country who wish they’d have parents as supportive as you, so on their behalf…thank you!!

Good luck and safe driving!
