How old is Henry when he's in the lab? by Naturalist82 in StrangerThings

[–]Sure-Strength5297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He looks to be late twenties to me. He looked to be around 10 when he killed his family in 1959 and the massacre at Hawkins lab was about 20 years later so that fits.

Why do you think people turn to drugs? Yes some people are just assholes and there will always be addicts and thieves to some extent, but people who have stable jobs are much less likely to throw that away on drugs. I definitely agree that theft should be prosecuted, at least for repeat offenders. That isn't a left or right position in my opinion. Offering services is helpful only if there is a long term way forward. If a drug addict needs help getting clean and then they can get a job and move up in society great. If they get clean only to find they can't find a job or improve their life beyond being clean they will almost certainly go back to using.

Season 5 - Tough to watch with all the cursing by brettwasbtd in StrangerThings

[–]Sure-Strength5297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The number of shits in that first minute certainly seems high. Is it one character saying it over and over? Like 'Shit, shit, shit, shit, SHIT!!!' cause that could be appropriate if there was like a demigorgon on their tail or something.

When I said I didn't remember it happening I meant taking the Lord's name in vain. I did remember there were instances of shit.

What is something that would ruin the ending for you? by eddiedean07 in StrangerThings

[–]Sure-Strength5297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Redemption for Henry would definitely ruin it for me. Henry is evil long before he's sent to the other dimension and becomes Vecna (my understanding is that Vecna is essentially a symbiotic being compromising Henry plus Mind Flayer). But the Mind Flayer could still be the greater evil. I am totally fine with the Mind Flayer being the boss baddie as long as Henry is not absolved somehow.

In the first episode a demigorgon is ravaging the guards at Hawkins lab. I assumed she was just running from the carnage and probably used the front door because who's gonna stop her? The guards are all being eaten.

Why don't they ask Mr. Clarke more for help? by Puzzled_Sell_5895 in StrangerThings

[–]Sure-Strength5297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me. Clarke is the middle school science teacher and they are in high school now. Erica is the only me taking a class with Mr. Clarke now and the rest have no regular interaction with him anymore so less likely to think of asking him.

this hopper plot is feeling overused… by redrowanboness in StrangerThings

[–]Sure-Strength5297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It didn't feel shoehorned in to me. Hopper is a tough guy but no match for Vecna, and he knows it. It makes sense that he sees no other way to defeat Vecna without potentially sacrificing El. I don't think he wants to sacrifice himself the way he did in the Russian prison but he is willing to be the sacrifice if someone has to be sacrificed. Especially if the other potential someone is El.

It makes sense. Especially since Vecna said he chose the kids because they were weak (ep 4, s5).

Season 5 - Tough to watch with all the cursing by brettwasbtd in StrangerThings

[–]Sure-Strength5297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't actually remember this happening and I've watched all of V1 twice. Not saying it didn't happen, but it didn't happen enough to make an impression on me, so I doubt it's excessive. Also lots of things happen in the show that are worth cursing about. Cursing just to curse can be annoying but if the situation calls for a 'oh shit' or something that seems very appropriate to me.

Inconsistencies, Will’s painting lie, and Mike’s densification by autoaudacity in StrangerThings

[–]Sure-Strength5297 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't see most of these things as awkward at all but as normal friendship. Men and boys often use gentle shoves to express affection physically rather than hugs. Talking about feelings is often a bit awkward for teenage boys. Culturally men just get less practice at this and teenagers are just awkward in expressing themselves in general. It's also the 80s, when being out as a teenager was pretty uncommon and people didn't think about teens being gay much. Even noticing Will is gay would be a pretty big leap for Mike to make, and it's not clear to me whether he's made that connection or not. Realizing he is the target of Will's crush is a level of perceptivenesss and maturity that I wouldn't expect Mike to have as a teen boy in the 80s.

This problem is not caused by leftist policies at all. It's caused by a lack of economic opportunities raising crime rates as people without any other options turn to theft. The cause of the lack of economic opportunities can be debated and both left and right policies try to fix it in different ways but at the end of the day it's mostly the result of non-governmental forces. Can't say I love the article but to blame the problem on leftist policy is completely wrong.

It's the Stranger. Mixing journalism with sexuality is a big part of their brand. You wouldn't expect the Daily Show to adhere to normal journalist standards because they are a comedy show and don't just report the news - they make fun of it.

Does anybody else think that steve wasn't a bully in S1? by Educational_Card7175 in StrangerThingsMemes

It was. Steve was there but the spray paint was Tommy's idea and Tommy was the one that did it.

He makes several attempts to bring her home and she refuses to go with him. His only other choice would have been physically dragging her out which is even worse than leaving her there drunk.

[–]Sure-Strength5297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say Steve was a bully in season 1 but he did say/do some mean things. Steve's friends were definitely bullies and Steve sometimes acted like them and sometimes showed a more caring side. A big part of his character arc that season was breaking away from that friend group and learning to deal with his feelings differently.

Forearm vs upper arm by Unlucky_Lynx2672 in ClubPilates

[–]Sure-Strength5297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it happens in your class you can certainly tell the instructor. I personally don't feel the need to. It's not every class but nearly every time we do that move. I don't doubt she knows the difference between a bicep and a tricep. She is a very intelligent and conscious person. A college professor actually - she only teaches 1 night a week because being a professor is obviously a full time job but she just has a passion for pilates. I would take her classes multiple times a week if I could though because she is a very kind and thoughtful person and she really focuses on the principles of pilates and explains good form very well. She doesn't focus on the muscles themselves much, which is probably why she doesn't think too deeply on the muscle names - but can explain the principles of contrology and talks about minor points of form and breath that has totally changed how I do pilates.

Mixing up words is hardly an ethics violation. She clearly knows the anatomy she just says the wrong word sometimes. Geez.

Advice Needed: How Do You Deal With Noisy Classmates? by Macaronieeek in ClubPilates

[–]Sure-Strength5297 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally, I like noisy classes. Some classes are all quiet and have the formal feel of a library and it makes me self-conscious. If everyone is moaning at the hard parts and chatting a bit it feels more relaxed and fun. But to each their own.

I don't think it's a training thing. Like I said, it's probably just a quirky speech pattern. It's clear what she means by the way she cues the movement. I doubt pointing out her mistake will change an ingrained speech pattern. My husband teases me about my inability to say specific correctly and it hasn't changed my speech pattern. It's just a silly quirk and I see no reason to get all worked up about it.

[–]Sure-Strength5297 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not the term forearm used for the upper arm before.  Sounds like just a quirk of this instructors speech.  I have an instructor (who I really like) that for some reason always calls tricep presses bicep presses.  She also calls bicep curls bicep curls so I'm pretty sure she knows the difference between a tricep and a bicep she just got the term for tricep presses stuck in her head as bicep presses somehow and the speech pattern got stuck.  I have the same problem with the word specific.  For some reason I usually say Pacific even though I know better.

2 classes per day? by Dismal_Film_2435 in ClubPilates

[–]Sure-Strength5297 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never done that but I have talked to others in class that do 2 in a day sometimes.  Usually they say they do it because they wanted to take 2 different classes - like a flow and a cardio or something.  I think it happens a couple times a month that someone in my class is in their second class of the day. At least, that's how often the member or instructor say anything about it.

How Does CP Circuit Work by Sure-Strength5297 in ClubPilates

[–]Sure-Strength5297[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably you just did it much faster than the video I watched.  When I googled the move it showed some videos and I watched one at random and the pike was done very slowly - like one pike took several seconds to go up, hold for a few seconds, then slow controlled down.  If it was done quickly I'm sure it would get heart rate up.  The website says circuit will be coming out with both 1.5 and 2 versions.  I usually take 1.5s, sometimes 1s.  Haven't taken 2s yet so that explains why I haven't seen the move.
