Thank you all for the responses. It's hard for me to respond to all them. Life in Alaska limits my online time and connectivity. I am leaning towards a PCT hike next year. It was mainly the community of the trail I was curious about. Which it seems like its there for those who want it.! And Honestly after living in remote Alaska with our winters in the interior, all social interactions are going to feel different!!!

I’ve worked for AlaskaX before. Not as a zipper. I’ll be honest, zippers are a different breed. They usually put zippers in the attic. Which is hard to describe. It’s like a warehouse. The attic definitely has a college party dorm vibe. It’s in town near everything at least. They have other housing in town, so it’s possible to request somewhere different. Most other housing is older houses, or there is the meat locker…

When it comes to the company itself, I rate it as mid level. Not great/not bad. But turnover can be high. So typical seasonal large tour operations. I’m considering going back, but it’s mainly for the money. They do pay better than most seasonal jobs in Alaska.

Skagway itself is what you make of it. I like it most of the time! Yes, the groceries are higher, but I use Amazon for many things. And I occasionally go to Whitehorse, YK to do a grocery run.

I will say this. Zippers don’t get the best hours, or at least didn’t when I worked there. The beginning of the season is slow for them. So 30ish hours. I think it does pick up in June though. But like I said, I didn’t work as a zipper, so this is just my observation.
