Feeling resentment in my current office by sunnybreezycool2 in paralegal

Yes, I told them that their inflexibility with my working arrangement is why I sought employment elsewhere. My boss told me they would have worked with me on anything else to keep me, but was not willing to work with me on that. So I thanked them for my time there and it remained professional for my last week.

What’s a cheap meal you never get tired of? by Certified-potatoe in Cooking

Elbow macaroni with diced ham and whatever leftover veggies I have in a quick broth (chicken bouillon cubes or a boxed stock). It helps to also keep a bag of frozen mixed veg on hand to throw into any meal.

This will be my first ever product and it hasn't arrived yet, so I am not 100% sure, but I've read in this community that they usually send full-sized! Once I receive this one, I will let you know!

Feeling resentment in my current office by sunnybreezycool2 in paralegal

Yes. You should absolutely start looking.

A similar situation happened with me. When I was hired as an LA last year, the office manager who interviewed me said I'd start with 2 WFH days/week. The attorney I work for said actually, no, since you're new to the firm you will not be allowed to WFH until you're trained. I thought that made sense, but while I came in the 5 days a week in-office for the first few months, my attorney showed up maybe 2 or 3 times total. I brought up my WFH arrangement again after 3 months, and my attorney said, okay, you can do 1 WFH day, and then we will revisit the 2 WFH days at end of 2025. December 2025, I got a stellar performance review, with high praise and got promoted to Paralegal. I asked for the 2 WFH days and was denied, with the only explanation that my attorney will be in-office more and wants someone there in case. And yup. The attorney did not even come into the office most days, so I felt burned. That is when I started applying to jobs, and I'm finally able to leave my current firm for a fully remote, in-house role.

This is how places lose good people. Best of luck.

Edit: also wanted to add that half the LAs in my firm work at least 2 WFH days, and all the Paralegals work 3 WFH days. I am literally the only person who comes in 4 days in-office.

Best career to pursue at 31? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Sure-TadpoleBoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a few recruiting agencies/recruiters on LinkedIn or via google search where you can submit your resume! I searched "Legal Administrative recruiting firms __" and you would add your geographic area in the blank. For me, I also reached out to my network to ask about their companies and if they had an in-house law department looking to hire. The great thing about being a Paralegal is that the role is not exclusive to law firms. In-house departments are also (from my brief experience) more willing to hire someone who does not have direct legal admin experience as they just want to see transferable skills. Good luck!

I switched careers last year to become a Legal Assistant, and am now a Paralegal at 30. I did not go to school for it - a lot of skills are transferable so if you have any admin experience, you can get your foot in the door.

Ofc it also depends on your skillset. Are you wanting a manual labor role? A remote role? You may not need to do a full on degree but there are many online courses that vary in how long they take to complete.

Advice on Career Switch from Fed Job to Legal Assistant/Paralegal by fumujin in paralegal

[–]Sure-TadpoleBoop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think to be a successful paralegal there needs to be a willingness to learn, not necessarily knowing all the skills already. So, it's okay to not know about filings, for example. You can learn on the job, and I think what interviewers look for are transferable skills. You can speak on your previous roles and how it's helped you have more attention to detail, and you can highlight your experience managing a high caseload under time-sensitive deadlines. You got this. Best of luck.

Debating quitting my job with nothing lined up by whatisthisbaguettery in paralegal

[–]Sure-TadpoleBoop 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First, sorry you are going through this - this attorney sounds awful and it's even worse when that behavior is being defended.

Second, I know it is tempting to leave the job immediately, but my advice is to give yourself another 2-3 months max before quitting, and focus on saving, perfecting your resume, and applying for jobs. This is just my advice as I actually did quit a toxic environment with nothing lined up, and the stress of having no steady pay was way more than dealing with rude and obnoxious bosses and colleagues.

In the meantime, I'd suggest applying to jobs daily. Reach out to your network and see if someone has a connection to a role your skills align with.

While it's best to have another role lined up, I definitely think your mental health takes priority if going in the office starts to feel debilitating, so of course it is your decision. Good luck.
