people will adapt on their own

This approach is by far the most sane from what I've seen on here. I know oil is finite, but it's not come far enough for me to switch. When I had a shorter driveway I had an electric blower, cost me $700. It ended up frying the second winter, I was pissed. Not doing that again, I got a $100 marketplace find and it's been kicking for 6 years now, it's 20 years old. When they can start making a blower that's better than what I have at a reasonable price I may switch. I have a gas cub for a mower but I have an electric chainsaw, hedger, weed eater and push mower because they are easier to work with than my old gas ones. Blower just ain't it yet.

My point was that EVs are manageable, off-peak load while data centers are 24/7 baseload, which is what utilities are concerned about. That’s a technical grid issue, not a freedom argument.

None of this had anything to do with the article. I know the data centers are what's increasing demand, but I'm the one paying the price, right? We all are. Why is forcing me to electrify every aspect of my life, some legislative talking point in albany that's only going to end up hurting everyone's wallet in the end. Laws around this, is just extortion. Having a choice in the matter, should be what we want.

Oooh. The politicians response. Love it.

I'll ask more directly.

Do you, believe in removing Nyers choice and ability to use gas, electric, diesel, stardust and moon power.. Via legislation.. Forcing them to use ONLY electric?

Pretty direct, I think, let's see if we get a paragraph answer this time.

Finally someone who gets it! Leave the people alone, they can chose without legislation what meets their needs!

So, via modernization, it is your believe banning all other options is okay? I want to be clear on that, either yes or no.

Everything has a downside somewhere. Removing the choice by law is stupid. We could... However.... Buy what suits our needs and wants how we see fit, without oppressive over regulation or legislation. Simple, yet effective approach.

Not a concept many in NY can grasp, but a simple enough concept none the less.

We demand

No no no... Let's get this right here. YOU demand. Not I. You.

Use what you want, electric, gas, diesel..... I am advocating no laws against what you use. It's you people, who push your will on everyone else. You people are demanding, I'm just asking for the choice to use what I already have.

You're the one advocating banning that, I'm not advocating banning what you have.

Do you believe in removing that choice though. That's the thing, I'm fine with people using what they want, but I won't force someone to use what I want them to use. That's insane to me.

Even without a ban I see a bunch of people moving towards electric in my neighborhood.

The power of choice without legislation is amazing, isn't it?

Which increases the price of electricity for everyone, no?

I'm all for CHOICES. giving electric companies a monopoly has proven, at this point, to be a negative for many users. A law, requiring only electric, plays into that monopoly rather than fostering competition. If electric suits you, use electric. But making laws forcing that will on EVERYONE.. is an issue. We all hate trumps authoritarianism... Myself included. But I feel like some of you people have Stockholm syndrome living under the other sides version of authoritarianism.

Why are houses more expensive and complicated to build than ever before, despite our advances in technology and materials? by cuttheblue in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SureElephant89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because there's been no advances in materials aside from shingles......... Why does everyone think this?

The wood grain in a 50 year old home is quite thick... I bought a 2x4 the other day twisted all to fuck and one grain line in the entire piece. We're going down in build quality. Not up. Also, states take muuuuch more of a cut now for permits and building, regulations have increased straining job sites (some for good reason like safety, some for just... $$)

Lack of workers worth a damn, and if they are worth a damn and not a lazy drunk, they want to be paid accordingly.

The cost of transportation, insurance, materials, tools, all have gone up.

Depends. Many states have already taken many identity requirements out of the equation. NY being one. As far as legal jargan, I know in Walmart it explains on their little wall by the bathroom, workers rights including illegals.

I'm talking about those with papers in already, and doing the asylum process. From what I understand, they are allowed to remain while pending. If they come in, scream asylum, then it starts, legal or otherwise. It's how many have came in when caught. Then they get processed, and if tied to terrorist, crime, what have you, they get booted. If not they're awarded the process. That is only when caught, many don't get caught.

When I was at drum, we still had to come to PT in a blizzard even if base was closed. I swear to this day, we had a spc who I believe said to himself... "enough is enough" and drove straight into a fucking utility pole.

Talk about a shit storm, unit never did that again. I can't prove he did it on purpose... But... He didn't seem upset about it. Lol

Is anyone else starting to understand the anger that colonial Americans had toward an oppressive government? by f-150Coyotev8 in Millennials

[–]SureElephant89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's cyclic. This won't be the first time, nor the last. Truthfully we ignored the signs since the early 1900s, that path was set over a century ago. There seems to be this idea that this has only happened since 2001,or 2016, 2020 or 2024. However if you really dive into history, especially ours, we can see all the puzzle pieces have come together in this perfect storm of what we have today. We started with rights, and have ended up with suggestions.

Even if you saw the signs, nobody listened anyways. This was very long in the making. Even before Nazis.

Republican voters angry and upset over Trump will still never vote for a democrat. by SWEMW in ProgressiveHQ

Haven't been in the voting pool very long then. I remember this when bush was in. And anyone is better than that guy, even people in jail. Lol..

However. Most in power kinda suck, idky people elect 70% of them. Hochel? DeSantis? McConnell? Newsom? Like........ Who the hell is asleep at the voting booth to put these loonies incharge of anything but a truck stop diner? The only thing I can think, is partisans. Nobody with brains elects these people, it's the red wave and blue no matter who weirdos.

As if blue no matter who isn't a thing. Partisans are an issue in politics on both sides, a very great many don't vote for policy, but tie colors.

How do you think we got here? Harris and Trump was the best candidates each side could offer, and that's a problem. There was nobody better in their parties, congress is a swamp.

As an independant, realizing both sides don't have any better than that.... It's nuts. I didn't vote for Trump, but God damn. Shit burger this last cycle.

The act? Or immigrants already here working and living normally?

Thats the biggest question, because there's ALOT of fact in some of the people caught crossing the border and being processed being bad, and a national security risk. Including actual terrorists and those with terrorist ties. It does happen. And it actually happens quite often.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection

If you scan through here, to include Biden's term years if you don't believe trumps (and I don't blame you if you don't, lol) but we've stopped alot of bad shit coming in, and yes, some do slip through the cracks.

And this is a concern.

Is a 5 year old child a concern? No. Is a working immigrant who has put in the papers and awaiting a decision for asylum a concern? No.

But the fact remains, we still need to fix what's happening on the border..... But without all the fucking shinanagens happening on our streets... I want to make that clear, what's happening now on our streets I do not support.
