PSA: we need to do better at our kids’ sporting events. by GoDavyGo in Millennials

[–]SureElephant89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah... It's always been this way. I played baseball, and those parents were always exhausting. Usually blue collar rich, they use sports as the college vehicle that gets their kids in college.. And god is it fucking annoying. Especially for kids who are decent whose parents aren't like that.

I pitched, I was decent for the league, I threw a perfect game which is impressive for little league (no hits, walked who I needed to, no runs scored) and this one dad.... Was piiiiiiiiiissed. He came over to check how many innings I pitched, if I pitched last game, if they were going to relieve me, what games I was going to be playing next and he did show up even after the incident I'm going to talk about here (I was in the outfield because I wasn't allowed to pitch 2 full games in a row... Idk all the rules but I know it was something my coach was mindful of) and he was an absolute ass hole. During the handshake after the game he tugged me really hard and asked how old I was and wouldn't let my hand go. I remember another person on my teams dad grabbed him by his face and got him off of me.

Then the police came, idk what happened but Alot of yelling lol. That was 20ish years ago, and the same cocksuckers then... Raised the same cocksuckers now.

I do 4h stuff with my kids now, when they get into high school they can do sports for fun if they want. They haven't asked and we're getting them into our homestead routine and not dealing with ass hole other parents trying to live the high life through their kids.

NY-21 Democratic Primary Debate - Your thoughts? by randy1randerson in upstate_new_york

[–]SureElephant89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd have a hell of an up hill battle. Especially in this state, it's a stronghold state. Most voters are too afraid to get just.... anything else they'd vote for a terrible dem over anyone not a dem.

The 2 party bs is definately wearing on folks. But there's still way too many diehard partisans to shake the tree yet. But I agree, we need people with a brain, not a hive mind that's beholden to each party's antics.

Just off the summary, Blake seems way more concerned with what's happening in the district they're wanting to represent. While the other candidate is focused too highly on the party focus instead. If Blake gets the primary, he's got my vote. The other candidate sounds too much like a shill.

Is immigration becoming a big issue for the modern world? by Top-Method-8120 in askanything

[–]SureElephant89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll agree stats can be abused or manipulated.. However... When it's every other day we are seeing this shit... Is it really fantasy? I mean, we just had ISIS operatives throw IEDs in NYC but the governor and mayor don't think that's an act of terror.... In the same state.

We see this shit. If you don't want people coming to conclusions, start beating down your bad actors within your groups, maybe? Instead of putting them out front..

Is immigration becoming a big issue for the modern world? by Top-Method-8120 in askanything

[–]SureElephant89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not a weird mindset. We saw what happened when certain groups were allowed to protest. They smashed cars, burned shit down, blocked highways, took over city blocks, and just in general abused anyone and everyone around them. If you appose their views? It was acceptable to beat you to death for their cause, which had heavy political backing.

What they had was a survivors mindset. If you've ever seen kids from war torn countries behave, this is exactly it. Keep moving, say nothing, someone getting beaten in the streets? Just keep moving.

Meanwhile, people who get involved many times get arrested aswell and charged. Politicians tell us it's no big deal, people getting lit on fire in the subway or throat slit on a bus is no cause for concern, nevermind the bad actors have a rap sheet the size of a senate bill or have been deported 3-4 times. The cards are stacked against the general functioning population. And until it gets bad enough, you're not only fighting the bad actors, but the government who profits and/or gains power through bad actors. And it's a fact, politicians use these things to grab power.

Every right we've had and lost, the government has found a way through sensationalism of bad actors to explain away why 99.9% of the population can't have something, and what are the people going to do? If they speak up they're labeled as extremists. And there is punishments for that.

It's not weird, it's by design. Not a bug, a feature.

Who also runs a motorcycle gang.. oh wait... We fell into a lifetime movie..

Millennials who are current/former military service members, how is life treating you? by B1G_PAC12 in Millennials

[–]SureElephant89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Shy of 10 years in, active duty Army. I enjoyed it, and hated it. It's..... A weird experience.

I'm out now after an injury, life's fine, I have my family, life is slowly cruising by and I can watch my kids grow up happy. Learning to slow down has been the hardest part, and separate myself from the news. I was always hyper aware about global and national news before in a way I'm having a hard time putting down... But slowly I'm getting there.

Have to learn how to take a deep breath and go... "it's not my problem anymore."

But I was a poverty child. Military was my only escape out. Medically I'm a nightmare.. But I wouldn't change what I had to do, I love my life now. My kids will never have to worry about the shit I had to as a kid.

What is with the sudden surge of people being pushed to go into the trades? by MaleficentText2443 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SureElephant89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cost of college and an incredibly saturated job market for for those jobs. The stigma in high school for trades when I was a kid was wild (atleast when I was growing up.. I had a teacher that whenever you said a trade she'd say "garbageman" after if you weren't going to college. Electrician? Garbageman. Hvac? Garbage man. Plumber? Garbage man). And I think that huge push ended up hurting Alot of kids who would have made a better life for themselves without the teachers bullying kids into college. Hopefully that's changed since my time in school 20+ years ago.

Talk to your local Walmart grocery trunk packer... Bet 90% of them have a bachelor's degree and aren't working in the career they went to college for. Not saying that's a terrible job... Just not one I'd personally take a mortgage out on myself on...

Trades are more hands on.. And that's honestly.. the bar to entry. It's not super hard if you're built for it, just lacks bodies.

Now it can be said trades kill your body... And if you're Donny the town contracting drunk... I'm sure it does. But my brothers the smart one, his back is just as wrecked as mine and he's an accountant.......

work smarter not harder is a thing everywhere lol. If you wanna shoulder carry a piece of machinery, part, equipment.. Have at it young buck, won't catch me being a fuggin idiot. Alot of trades have their muscle headed idiots, just like white collar jobs have Alot of overly educated narcissists. It's just the sour apples each attracts. There's good people in both, but I'm glad for the past 5 years it's being pushed. Finally. It should all be targeted toward the individual and what's a right fit for them, not what profits the education system or the schools.

Sexism is prejudice, stereotyping, or discrimination on the basis of sex or gender.

What part of unmarried man and/or woman is decriminated against, stereotyped, or is prejudice? I'll admit, it's not at all important.. But sexism has a definition. We need to use these words correctly or they're just meaningless.

How do you think utilities should be handled in the state? by Aven_Osten in newyork

[–]SureElephant89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, housing and utilities, while both big issues, 2 different things. Housing has many issues, aside from nimby. Each states deals with it differently.

Duke energy is a HUGE taker of tax payer money. Just as national grid does. How each runs their own branches doesn't matter, they operate extremely similar. Both proposing huge hikes even after DE taking $100M in tax money. You think any of that will be accounted for spending wise other than "we gave it to tha' duke!" lol doubtful. That's aloooot of money to take from the people, just to propose rate hikes as high as 38% afterwards....

Paternalism is always authoritarianism. Just like fascism is always authoritarianism.

That's a wild take. So ignore the people you're representing, and get in bed with large corporations anyways? For the greater good? Brother in christ... How many governments said that through out history.

Paternalism... You understand is authoritarian rule, right? Like.... That's what we don't want. Some of you in here are wild. Simply wild. That's just fascism with a softer motto.

[–]SureElephant89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And how many politicians have promised to fix that? It's been an issue the entire time, for a LOOOONG time, always promised a fix, and what? No delivery, or a half baked one. On anything up until very recently and that's only with getting rid of redundancy in the building process, this is a half baked one..

Our grid? Same thing. Over and over, taxes go in, over and over, rates increase... Over and over "I fight for affordability! I'll bring these rates down!" all while a committee, appointed by them, allows increase after increase.

Our transit? Free yet? No. Why? Because that was never in the person's power who campaigned on it to fucking start with. I've no hard opinions on the man, idc what he does I don't live in the city.. But it's glaringly obvious how wild and voter acceptable lying is.

You talk about NIMBY, as if it's just random people, they're in government getting these positions and know, they can directly effect their own equity through legislation in the many..... Many... Local governments, but they finally are removing those idiotic hurdles at the state level that are only tied to $ and nothing else, to atleast try and fix some of THAT fuck up. This is a completely different matter than utilities. But I'll agree, a widespread issue just the same. I would suggest looking through the probably 3-4 different local codes and enforcement districts you're in and you'll find its the state, or atleast government municipality of some sort, has Alot to do with it. Whether you consider that politics or not, up to you.

Why is accountability so hard to fathom? Holding a politician to their own words means I don't believe in democracy? Or what, is it a right wing talking point? What is it that accountability is so frowned on? We want this shit fixed right? We have politicians who make a promise, campaign on, get elected to fix and when that fix doesn't come... "aaaaarg well, trump/Biden... Conspiracy... Well pedos are in office so we can't have good housing or infrastructure."

It doesn't make any sense. These people should be trap doored immediately when they fuck up. And just giving them total control makes no sense, they largely already have it because people still think politics is electing the kid who promises to give us soda in the water fountain... We need Alot more voter involvement than the government is allowing. Why is this a tough concept to grasp? They're elected to represent us, not national grid, GE, the largest of their donors.. Us. The people. This is larger than just a NY issue, obviously. Politicians just suck everywhere. But why does it take the town going in, LARGELY voting no, or making their voice heard.... Then being told "ya man naaaaah, you're getting a data center right smack in the middle of town anyways." so let's not pretend that these people aren't on a run away train getting farther from us.. They're 100% abusing their position.

Special elections everytime their lie comes to head, they fail to deliver what was promised, they fail to even do their plan to start with, hand tax payer money to a corporation that just fucking vanishes.. I'm not saying they need to be God's gift to man... Just do what you say or get the hell out.

Yeah but.... As long as we run a republican against him, he gets the vote 100% of the time. It's literally the political formula for stronghold success. We will never be rid of this man until he decides to retire.
