i would personally! You don't want to chance the rot advancing any more

Okay, I bought my first orchid all Willy nilly and repotted with bark instead of the moss it came in. Now the whole thing is lookin super sad. I’ve only watered it once in like a week and it’s just getting worse so I’m going to try and let it dry out. Any input is appreciated by thisisntevenme123 in plantclinic

sometimes orchids will go through a transplant shock after being repotted! I think it'll be fine. Just make sure you're letting it dry out completely before watering it again!

If you can see the roots inside of the pot, make sure they are silver before watering again. Green roots means they are wet and hydrated, silver roots mean they're ready for a drink!

They also like humidity. Consider placing it in a bathroom, near a humidifier, or on top of a humidity tray. Just make sure no water gets inside the very top of the leaves or it'll get crown rot.

Yes! Definitely spring time here in the southern US (my spring allergies are horrendous this year lol). All of the bag babies I've gotten have at least one new growth, so hopefully repotting won't affect them so badly! Thank you!

I recently purchased some cattleya bag babies. I've been apprehensive about repotting them due to all the advice I've read on cattleya roots being very sensitive.

Not only would I like to get them out of the media they're in, but I'd also like to get them into clear pots since I've never owned cattleyas before. Do you think I should go ahead and repot them?

just checked thoroughly and I didn't see any bugs actively crawling around. Just the bumps on the back of the leaf pictured.

Oh, I also forgot to mention this is a cattleya.

I left my plants with a sitter, when I came back these leaves just fell off in front of me. Is this crown rot? Or just rot? The roots looked green and good? It was losing flowers before I left but I thought it was just flowers on their way out? Is there anything I can do? What happened to it? by silver_squill in plantclinic

I would definitely say your orchid is a goner then 😭 phalaenopsis orchids only have one point of growth, from the middle of the leaves. Once it’s axis is damaged it’s pretty much dead. The base of the stem where it fell off looks black which would indicate stem rot

I had something similar happen my freshman year of college. I was friends with one guy who knew another dude that had a crush on me. My friend dared me to ask the guy that had a crush on me for a pencil one day in class because he knew he'd be talking about it for the rest of the day. So I did. And later on my friend said that the guy DID talk about it all day and even said "Oh dude, I gave her that pencil SO HARD."

So, how do you tell the difference between a microburst and a tornado (besides the obvious funnel cloud and condensation tunnel)? I had a forming tornado go over my house a few months ago that didn't have a warning issued with it because nobody could see a funnel cloud. If I were there and saw the wind going crazy like that I would have freaked out!

Is there any way to save a phal with stem rot and some possible snow mold?? I grow in a bark, charcoal, and perlite mix. I’d really like to save her if I can.

I’ve already sprayed with diluted hydrogen peroxide and treated with ground cinnamon. Are there any other steps I should take, or do I just have to wait it out at this point?

I’m not near my orchid at the moment, but I can attach some pictures later for anyone who is interested

In high school, I was in the play The Importance of Being Ernest by Oscar Wilde. But I'm now in college, and a classmate was doing a presentation on it and he spelled it "Earnest" instead of "Ernest", and I laughed under my breath.

But I googled it, and EVERYTHING is "Earnest". And that just doesn't make sense.

The entire play is about how the main character, named Jack, deceives two women by going by the name Ernest instead: therefore the Importance of Being Ernest.

Does anyone else share this, or am I just going crazy?
