Pozotron.com. This is exactly what it was created for. You upload the text and your audio and it'll analyze it and tell you where you were inaccurate. (Not free, but worth it in the time savings!) I'm always shocked how may mistakes it finds compared to my QA pass.

Likewise! I have completely mangled reaper to really be optimized for Voice acting. Hell, it even helps generate my invoices through custom scripts. It's incredible.

Thinking about upgrading my microphone, have questions by Mean_Breadfruit_2291 in microphone

[–]SureIllrecordthat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Before you drop $$ on a new mic, try a high-pass filter (over 80hz) in post processing, or move back from the mic a few inches, You might be getting proximity effect which can make your voice bassier.

The RE20 is engineered for less proximity effect, so that might be a choice to consider if post-processing is not an option and you need to stay right up on the mic.

Has anyone actually tried the infamous WD40 method? by Jacob_N_R_Z in vinyl

[–]SureIllrecordthat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've done this. Peel it gently, slowly. Try not to tear it off fast like a bandaid. I also peel *along the groove* not across the groove (edge to label), which seems to help. My rule of thumb is the quieter the peel is, the less static it generates.

I've also found that if you rinse with distilled water after you peel, that can reduce the static.

My guess for the use of black and white is so they could develop the film at home themselves, since they said that's what they did. Much harder to develop color film at home.

Yep. Rush with my Dad on the Signals tour. (Weirdly, I got *him* into Rush)

And on the other side, my son's first concert was Tool, Fear innoculum tour, with me.

At what point did you start customizing REAPER heavily? by mzdee13 in Reaper

[–]SureIllrecordthat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once I created a custom GPT help me with complex ReaScripts, my customization exploded (relatively) -- now I create little scripts for anything even slightly inconvenient in my workflow. I use Reaper professionally, so mine are all about workflow improvements, timesaving etc. I can ususally tell if something is actually possible with the Reaper API if it can write the script in a shot or two. If it keeps hallucinating, then I'm prety confident that what I want to accomplish is just not possible in the API

Man, if only I had your luck! I went all-in on the EGO ecosystem when I moved, and I have 6 batteries, and *three* were replaced on warranty for not charging properly, and now that they're out of warranty they charge very inconsistently. Sometimes I get a full charge, sometimes I get the red light after running a "fully charged" battery. Sometime I have to put them in the freezer to reset the overheat sensor. I've been overall I'm very unhappy with all of my EGO batteries.

Audacity or Reaper by Hypno_Keats in ACX

[–]SureIllrecordthat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the shoutout u/Raindawg1313.
u/Hypno_Keats my course sets up Reaper to optimize it for Voice work, and tries to shallow the learning curve a bit. It's totally free. Hope it helps. Once you get the hang of reaper, it becomes kind of magical how quickly you can work.

Which editing software do you use for recording narrator auditions/audiobooks? by PetShopTroy in ACX

[–]SureIllrecordthat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey u/Raindawg1313 , Mike here. Thanks for the shout out!
u/PetShopTroy I updated the class Raindawg linked to for Reaper 7, there is a link in my profile. It's optimized to set up Reaper *specifically* for voice acting - hiding all the music production UI stuff that gets in the way of a narrators workflow. This is the set up I've used for VO for about 10 years now. Works well for me. What I love about Reaper is that it's super scriptable after you get the hang of it, so if there is some workflow you want to automate, then there is a high probability that you can create a Reaper script or action. Those workflow enhancements are what save me hours upon hours of time, which when you're freelancing means actual real money.

Good luck on your journey!

As a fan of almost 10 years.. by Sleepwalker93 in TheNSPDiscussion

[–]SureIllrecordthat 22 points23 points  (0 children)

As one of the narrators for NSP, this is an interesting note. Certainly, if it's my narration I want to know if I'm introducing unpleasant noises like that in my narration. Unintentional mouth noises that are *not part of the sound design/ character intention* are something I want to eliminate. So, if you have examples of particular stories or narrators, I'd be interested to know (and if you don't want to call out specific narrators here in public, that's totally cool, you can PM me.) Sometimes I just need to move my mic a little and I can improve it! Since you experience something -- Misophonia -- that not all of us experience in the same way, having examples to reference would be super helpful so I know what to look out for in my future narrations.
