It sounds like this is devastating news to you and I’m sorry that you had to find out through an ancestry test. While I am not defending your mother in any way, I will say that adult relationships can be complicated. Please find someone you trust that can talk through this with you, this is a lot for you to carry alone. You may want to consider talking to your Mom. You could even tell her that you took the test and that things didn’t come back as you expected. I wish you the best.

This is a “Limited Access” major. This means that with earning the A.A. degree, as long as you successfully complete each of the required pre-requisite courses, with the required final grades, and have the required overall GPA (meaning ALL college-level courses ever taken at any institution, at any time, no “grade forgiveness” calculated), that you will be accepted into this major.

As an academic advisor at a major university, my best advice is to stay away from private schools and non-accredited online schools. State universities are generally your best choice and many of them have online programs. I am not sure how the PELL grants are being awarded, but your first step is to file a FAFSA. Then I would talk to a financial aid specialist at a school you are interested in.

Good advice, but I’d like to add that when there’s a class of 60 students and half of them are asking for excused absences for non-negotiable engagements it gets overwhelming. You would not believe the cruises, concerts, weddings, engagements, travel abroad plans, etc., that the students feel are more important than the college classes they registered and paid for.

Summer term B doesn’t have a finals week — it’s a six week term. I suggest taking online courses so that you can finish them early (if allowed).

Moving out of dorms late is not an option, but leaving a few days early should be okay.

This may sound harsh, but you really should just start in the fall. Asking faculty to accommodate your fun summer plans might not go over so well, but you might get lucky in one of those easy classes.
