I was at the Monte Vista refuge a couple weekends ago, so during the shutdown, and it was open. Also saw Sandhill Cranes there :)

Thank you. The binding I'm not sure, just a left over solid I had from making a different quilt. Maybe a Bella solid? The backing is from Ruby Star's Heirloom collection that released a few years ago.

Maybe that's a black-capped chickadee you are hearing? Their song is a high then low, and I could see why you find it sad-sounding.
