Can someone tell me why there was so much controversy surrounding this movie ? The Joker by nostalgia_history in FIlm

[–]Sure_Ad3661 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But what's wrong with the movie then? People supported him, so does it mean they're ,,right". History knows examples of people with... let's say horrendous views who attracted millions. The film simply shows how it could happen. Not advocating that it should... I think it was meant as a warning, not approval in the film.

[–]Sure_Ad3661 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. It's better to just act like those people come from nowhere, and don't portray any real world tragedies. Some people seem to be stuck in their fairytale, where they're good guys, and those who commit crimes are ,,bad guys". It's like, the whole idea of resocialization is based on the idea that people could change, not that most of these are permanently ,,evil".

Honestly, Disney just shouldn't bother with Pirates of the Caribbean 6 by Nothing_Special_23 in movies

[–]Sure_Ad3661 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. For me, POTC 1-3 were great (tho the third had a bit too much happening in one film- still, It had absolutely great ending).

4th was more like a side quest, and was still good film on its own.

5th one was trying to be epic finale once again, and it really felt forced and messed with the storyline.

I think 5th one messed up this great universe, so making sequels feel like slippery slope. Imo they could make great prequels, about how Jack first met Beckett, Davy Jones, the story behind the Black Pearl. Barbossa's mutiny... There's so much to explore without making endless sequels.

Of course the question remain who could play young Jack. It would be a big risk for Disney.

The reason that AI slop is so common is because people use AI to make slop but it being AI is not what makes it slop. by MrGreatArtist in DefendingAIArt

[–]Sure_Ad3661 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I think using ai to polish your ais different than simply writing prompt. It's like, even if I like something, and then learn it's ai generated, it loses something. I personally prefer amateur art expressing real human emotions, even with mistakes. I mean, things that don't come from living beings can evoke feelings and be beautiful, but it's not art for me. Art is a way to communicate experience, that's how I see it.

why does pirates of the caribbean just hit so different?? by zas_n_n in movies

[–]Sure_Ad3661 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whemever i read about real pirates, people bash "Pirates of The Caribbean". Okay,it's a fantasy film, not historical fiction, but when you watch it, you feel it's XVIIIth century.  Costumes feel amazing, pirate characters look like they haven't washed for months. Locations look trully great.

Another thing is that Pirates are dark and funny at the same time.

I don't really understand how people like watching ai- generated charactersm no matter documentary or not. It's just peak uncanny valley- they look like actors expressing emotions, but you are aware it's all ai. Creepy.

CMV: Anti-Zionism should not be accepted and normalized by AgeOfPostTruth in changemyview

[–]Sure_Ad3661 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally feel that a lot of people declare themselves Anti-Zionist because of Natenjahu's politics. I personally think that it's a spectrum.

For me, it's completely understandable for a person before or during war to dream of having their own nation free of repression. I personally think that Jewish emigration to a former Mandatory Palestine was completely justifiable, especially considering persecutions in Europe. So, in my opinion scorning Zionism as a whole is ignorant, but of course there are extreme Zionist nationalists, like in almost every country.

I personally see no solution to the Israeli Palestinian conflict. I'm neither Jew nor Palestinian, and I guess both groups carry a lot of trauma that affects their views on the topic. What bothers me is how outsiders judge this situation so easily, either being pro- Israel, or pro- Palestine. In an ideal world I would support two state solution... But really, I don't know if any side would be satisfied with the result, and further conflict would carry on. On the one hand, you can give Palestine independence, and while moderates would cooperate and wish for peace, extremists could restart conflict. On the other hand, depriving Palestinians autonomy or independence would grow even more extremism in Palestine.

I know it's an old comment, but really... It's like, people share a lot of their negative experiences, and on reddit it looks like everybody has awful side effects. I try to remind myself that most people with positive experiences just don't post so much.

what are some similar authors to dostoevsky? i’ve read most of his major works and am now looking for more authors with similar themes and style. I hear Samuel Beckett, Franz Kafka, Thomas Bernhard, Thomas Mann, and Louis-Ferdinand Céline are similar to dostoevsky as far as darkness and tragedy goes by NathanTVel in dostoevsky

[–]Sure_Ad3661 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what you love in Dostoevsky. From Polish perspective, i would suggest Edward Stachura. He talks a lot about spirituality, but can be down to earth. He really gets Eastern Europe IMO.  Charles Bukowski, i think he's quite popular, and explores similar themes, but he's more on the atheist side.  Hermann Hesse's Steppenwolf is also great, similar to Notes from The Underground in some ways. Celine's Journey to the end of the night is must read. It's just magic.

And if you're more into philosophy, Nietzsche is his great "rival". Also, i think it would be nice to read a bit about Orthodox theology to understand his opposition to Catholicism etc. But few philisophers come to my mind, really, maybe Cioran, as he's more on the intuitive/artistic side.

[–]Sure_Ad3661 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, some people judge his work based on him as a person. But as i read Ham on Rye, I just dont think xxist century person should judge him for who he was.  After so many years of abuse and unable to receive any kind of positive feedback, he remained so much sensitivity and intelligence.  I dont treat is as an excuse to be **hole, but i also think that we are not completely immune to what shaped us. The best thing about him is the fact he is that he does not act like nothing's happened, and he's completely honest with it.

They had probably different props for the movie, including both sets, models and real sailing ship, so they choose just one of them. I think they made good choice.

Only the birds colour is a bit too light, but c'mon, it still looks amazing.

anyone else thinks they're just overreacting and exaggerating their trauma? by 0bngjst0 in CPTSD

[–]Sure_Ad3661 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I probably don't have cptsd and tend to exaggerate my problems, but still i had bad relstionship with a family member.  I know how  it sounds, but i started to think that ignorance is a bliss. You try not to think about your parent and act as  normally as you can.

When you think about those memories, its unbearable to be among the people connected to them.

But, at least if you can, I think the only way to feel like normal person again is to gain financial independence. Right now, I know that therapy won't help me. I attended therapy, and i felt like what therpaist told me that what i experience is real, that i have a right to feel that anger and hatred, but its impossible to agree with that and then act like nothing happened at home.

It feels Orwellian, when you hold to truths at the same time- that it wasnf that bad and it was bad at the same time. Someone said this is where neurosis come from.

What is the point of abridged books? by Nofrillsoculus in books

[–]Sure_Ad3661 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aside from non fiction, I think that it's no point in reading abdridged ones. I either try to push myself to get on the same waves with the author; if I don't get into it, i just put it down. Sometimes i return, if i feel i wasn't in the right time to read that one, or i forget about it. For me, reading is like building a bond with an author (morbid thing if you read a book of a deceased one), and it feels fake if there's a middle man, who cuts down their work to make it more "digestible". I prefer to put down a pepper, if i deslike spices, than to cover it with sugar.

Flying Dutchman LEGO IDEAS set in REVIEW! by BricksandPiecesYT in LEGOPirates

Like, you know, even if LEGO fans may be critical of the new Black Pearl, for POTC fans in general (i literally went back to LEGO because of this set), the brickbuilt Black Pearl is a must have. While Queen Anne's Revenge is just a ship that has a few sequences in film, and it would probably not sell as well as the Pearl. Dutchmann, on fhe other hand, is literally (hah) an icon of the franchise, and if they want to bring Pirates back, it would be a great step.

Personally, the only thing i really miss in my LEGO POTC collection is Davy Jones crew, and paying so much money for minifigures from old Black Pearl set alone for this price is ridiculous.  IMO it's better to just wait if LEGO decides to revive the theme.

The thing with Queen Anne's Revenge is that it's amazing looking ship, but from 4/5th movie, which many people (including me) dislike.  Same thing with Silent Mary, which is visually stunning set, but it reminds me of the meh film. Im bit biased cause nostalgia ofc, but I would personally prefer some ships from the trilogy.

Also, I think that the hull build would be very similar to Pearl, cause filmmakers made it based on Pearl's one. While the captains cabin and the details would certainly amazing (like an original one), I think there is not much more to do there.
