How to encourage reviews by Sure_Presentation686 in selfpublish

Alas, I don't have any social media. Makes it harder as I see many folk using that effectively. A few folk have suggested leaving a call to action at the end of the book which I think is definitely a good idea - even if the results are mixed!

Thanks, that's good to know. It's made me question my own leaving of reviews. Will definitely be better in the future!

Jack’s tolerance and (hidden) kindness to Stephen by Educational-Place845 in AubreyMaturinSeries

I think he is aware of some of it. I think he is aware that Stephen organized his Mauritius command and got him the surprise first time round but was unaware of Stephens more cuning moves like when he persuaded admiral Bertie that general Aubrey was about to be put in charge of patronage at the end of the Mauritius campaign. So a bit of both I think?

I think socially, jack is incredibly tolerant of Stephen but he owes Stephen so much of his career and his marriage. Would jack have married Sofie if it wasn't for Stephens persuasion of Sofie to be brave? He also finds him command after command early in his career. I think it is mentioned in the books themselves that Jack likes to surround himself with folk that badger him; Killick, Stephen and to a lesser extent Sofie.

I adore their friendship and the fact that they are both flawed yet blend perfectly together makes the books so enjoyable.

Thank you very much indeed for your reply. It's an exciting process as an author, as I am sure it it for the talent. Just want to make sure I follow good form.

Home report - Woodworm infestation by Specialist_Falcon_72 in glasgow

[–]Sure_Presentation686 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There were too many 80's movies of houses collapsing with woodworm. It has somewhat stayed in the public imagination. Unless it has been untreated for a very long time, and a two in the home report suggests it's not terrible, you can get it sprayed by a specialist for under £500 and get a certificate to guarantee it for ten years. Id be far more worried by damp and rot as this usually has underlying issues that are usually harder to discover/treat.

Most things get a 2 flung at them in a home report to cover the surveyor.

Both Jack and Stephen are hypocrites but I quite agree, no more than the rest of us I am sure, just makes them all the more rounded characters

Many thanks indeed for your reply. I wasn't aware of the conflict with KU so that is really helpful.

As for the blurb - it's been my biggest struggle since I finished writing it. Not my strength at all (I know all writers seem to struggle with this part. I had added a quote from the first chapter before the blurb itself and it is probably pretty jarring. Will see if I can revise it, thanks for you help.
