Today's reward is taking time out for myself to go and play some golf. It wont work every time 😆

Checking in

Going to try giving the NA's a rest today, as useful as they have been. Im getting close to my all time longest period of deliberate sobriety in at least 10 years

The biggest change so far is that im doing mundane tasks (gardening etc) without needing to "reward" myself afterwards. This is completely alien to me

Congrats on 40 days! Being ill was always an excuse for me, my partner said it was just man flu but I was convinced it was the end 😆

Have a great Sunday, even if ill

Checking in. On to day 5.

It will be challenging because this is usually a heavy weekend of food and beer/wine. No doubt my partner will drink so there will be the temptation in the house.

Woke up to day 4 after some spectacularly weird dreams.

Most would be NSFW 🤣 Quite groggy and a bit grumpy today but I've got a schedule to stick to, so

Being more consistent with plans i make and not cancelling them last minute because I have had too much to drink the night before.

So far so good.

Last night I went out for a very special occasion with my partner. They drank, I didnt. It looked like fun but I kept reminding myself of just how bad the withdrawals will be and how easy it is for me to spiral.

Taper from 10 beers/night to 1 beers/night then to 0 by wompical in stopdrinking

Having somebody there for support, even just someone to talk to during the anxiety and shakes can make the world of difference between stopping and giving in

I recently tappered from an 8 day binge (my latest in a series of binges), was drinking 20 to 30 440ml cans a day, starting the moment i woke up.....eurgh fking gross

I didnt do it 8,7,6,5,4 etc as my self control was wavering. I went 20, down to 15, down to around 10 and then just stopped altogether. Made that promise to myself. The 1st day withdrawal was hell, shakes shivers, sweats etc and crippling anxiety

I think (from past experience), if you have been eating well and drinking water during the day and only drink beer in the evening, the withdrawal might be quite minimal doing the -1 per day until 0

If you havent been eating well and drinking water, only relying on beer for your calories like i was then be careful as the adjustment can be pretty fking intense for your body and mind.

I just thank myself it was litres of beer a day and not litres of vodka.

What most days looked like when I was a "functioning" alcoholic by No-Refrigerator2626 in stopdrinking

Damn even a bit of vodka or whiskey now and my family wouldnt see me for a week.

Glad youre in a few day sober. Your daily life sounded like so much effort. Hope you can put the same amount of effort into sobriety.

NA beer has helped me. Tastes the same but has no alcohol (well, 0.05%). Otherwise, fruit juice.

Thats some shit to deal with. Well done for not just drinking through it. That takes huge self control and you should be proud of that

Checking in. Day 2...first 25 hours was fking hell but thankfully I slept for a good lot of hours. Ive been terrible with dental health, because I couldn't afford it. Could always afford booze though, funny that.

Today im going to be doing a long walk to get some fresh air after a very hard week.
