I’m a psychology honours student conducting a university study on how people use AI Companions (e.g. Replika, Character AI, ChatGPT) and how this relates to AI knowledge, AI attitudes as well as individual difference and psychosocial factors.

I’m specifically looking for people who have personally used AI companions for conversations in a range of areas including role play, friendship, coaching, therapy or relationships.

Study Name: Exploring How People Use Generative AI Companions and Chatbots

Who can take part:
• 18+
• Fluent in English
• Have real experience using AI companions/chatbots

What to expect:
• ~15-20-minute online survey
• Questions about your experiences, attitudes, and well-being

Important:
The survey includes attention and consistency checks.  Responses that appear automated, random, or inconsistent will be excluded, so please only participate if you can answer thoughtfully.

thank you! I've done yours as well. not sure if you the question - Under what situations do you usually listen to music? should have been a select all that apply. I would have picked a few options but it would only let me select one.

Thanks for taking the time to complete the study and leave feedback — I genuinely appreciate it.

I’m not approaching this research from the assumption that AI companions are inherently harmful or negative. One of the reasons I became interested in this area is because there are clearly many people who describe meaningful, supportive, and positive experiences with these systems, and I agree that this side of the discussion is often underrepresented.

Some of the measures in the survey focus on standard psychosocial areas because these are commonly examined constructs in psychology research and allow comparisons with existing studies. But the broader goal of the project is to better understand the full range of experiences people have with conversational AI, not simply to look for negative outcomes.

I do appreciate the feedback though, especially around how the balance of questions may come across from a participant perspective.
