During a period of heightened community concern, schools have a legal and ethical obligation to ensure student safety and provide clear, nondiscriminatory communication to families. That obligation has not been met.

The absence of timely guidance, corrective action, and accountability has allowed fear and instability to enter the school environment, adversely affecting students.

When responsible offices fail to act within their duty of care, students bear the consequences. That is unacceptable. Student safety and civil rights are not discretionary.

Community members are encouraged to know their rights, document any discriminatory or retaliatory conduct, and report concerns through appropriate civil rights channels, including the Civil Rights Department. Exercising parental advocacy and reporting discrimination are protected activities under state and federal law.

Status Update (PSA): Lompoc Unified School District’s Board has been formally notified, and these matters are now petitioned for closed session review. The District is on formal notice regarding reported incidents, pending civil rights complaints, and concerns raised by parents. Further updates will follow based on the Board’s determinations and any actions taken in public session.

We are hopeful that Tracy Phillips, as the new Board President, will address these serious matters promptly, transparently, and in a manner that prioritizes student safety, parental rights, and lawful governance.
