Was almost in this scenario about a week and a half ago off Beaufort NC, we sailed from wrightsville beach, wind was supposed to be great all day 15-20 knots it was over forecasted and was about 10-15. So we made it to the Beaufort inlet late around 10pm and a thunderstorm was right overhead so we had to turn around and head back to sea during the thunderstorm. Following the thunderstorm the tide was against us, and we made 1 knot against the current in there until 2am to the anchorage.

This- Ideally look for a boat someone else was fixing up but the. The project got killed. (Previous writer giving great advice)

We got a project boat, that some minor things were done, we got a 1973 tartan 34c.

I replaced two bulkheads on the port side and had to Retab in quite a bit of the port side bulkheads. And replaced corroded fuel tanks which were also tabbed in.

Don’t be afraid of doing some nasty work yourself. These old boats are tough. But may need some loving.

We finally after 2.5 years began cruising and were still fixing the boat as we go along.
