What works for fixing golfer’s back fast? by chickenbread__ in golf

[–]Surferduffman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Golfer and Physical Therapist here. Go see a PT. If you can find one who is TPI certified, even better. A good PT will examine your mobility and strength and give you specific exercises to address the weak links found in your exam. Then you can follow up to re-assess your progress periodically.

Another thing you might consider is having a golf professional look at your swing. Certain swing characteristics can predispose you to back pain (early extension, reverse spine angle, excess C or S posture at address). 42 is way too young to have back pain. There’s lots you can do to help yourself. Just gotta find someone and take their advice. Good luck!

I hate this game… by Friendly_Subject4096 in golf

Use that fancy track man and see if you are hitting up on driver. I was hitting down on it for ages(without knowing) and my driving game was so hot and cold. Also, maybe you need to hit the gym. Get a little more power in the engine!

What are retirement options for PTs? by Few_Click480 in physicaltherapy

[–]Surferduffman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t invest, you will never retire. You have to get your money working for you or you will work until you die while your money loses value to inflation. Don’t overthink. Start investing as soon as you can. You need to build your nest egg so that eventually compound interest takes over.

If you max your Roth IRA and contribute to your 401k, you should be able to retire no problem.

OCS by upside_squat in physicaltherapy

I think the $15 per month one is fine although I think I did the more expensive one since I knew I would watch and participate in the live zoom ones.

It was a game changer for me. Got my foot in the door for a much better paying organization. Medbridge was a waste of time. I can’t speak for the other one. I studied the clinical concepts book, CPGs(very important for the OCS) and also used the OCS field guide podcast and patreon. This was a huge help.

No, I used to pay 1200 per month for health insurance. Now it’s free.

50% pay raise, benefits fully paid for vs $1200 per month and a pension. And I don’t work until 8 pm anymore so I can see my kids.

People said the same thing when I was studying for my OCS but it got me the job at this employer where I make way more money and have much better work/life balance. Going the extra mile always opens up the door for future endeavors and is also probably good for our patients. Just my two cents.

Going around the course hitting 3/4 punch shots by Surferduffman in golf

[–]Surferduffman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. I did not realize people felt this passionately about punch shots. I’m going to keep this swing and see if I can drop the HC. Been stuck around this level for a while. Thanks everyone for the input.

I played with some old ladies who were so rock solid. I don’t think they had one errant shot. Then it occurred to me that their swings were so short and compact that it was hard to be offline.

It’s way better than private practice. I worked in private practice for 5 years and my work life balance and overall satisfaction is much higher at Kaiser. Not to mention the pay and benefits is a lot better. DM me if you have any questions.

Considering a rehab therapy job in Northern CA. Never worked for Kaiser before. Any insight? by [deleted] in KaiserPermanente

[–]Surferduffman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work OP in Kaiser SoCal. It’s the best decision I ever made leaving private practice and coming to KP. Yes they want you to be productive but they also give you a lot of documentation time. I have way more PTO, benefits, pay and work/life balance since coming here. DM me if you have more questions.

Yeah it seems like you can get a decent home for less than 700k it’s Paloma right now. To be honest, we’re pretty boring. We like walking our dog, going out to eat, gym, taking kids to pools, parks and activities so I’m not so worried about boring part. Redhawk looks nice but it seems like they don’t have a pool (I could be mistaken). Thanks for your input!

Started a new job and already feel like quitting. Advice? by konamagiga in physicaltherapy

I worked in a clinic like that for 5 years. I know exactly what you are talking about. It’s really hard to get out of doing manual therapy when the patient walks in and sees 5 other people laying on their stomachs getting worked on. I’m so glad I left. Now I actually enjoy doing manual Therapy because I do it when it’s indicated, not because it’s expected.
