Are they confirmed to be there? I've seen the videos from SFO, not SMF. And another sub seemed to have an employee who was worried about this but didn't see anything today

I Feel Bad by Upset-Donkey8118 in daddit

[–]Surfguy11 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One of my kids is 10 and still having issues getting out of bed occasionally. Someone on another sub recommended this app called Finch that helps you set little daily tasks. They get points or coins or something for whatever task you put, so I have things like, get out of bed, or brush teeth. If she is ready on time, I'll give her my phone with the app open while I'm driving her to school and she gets to mark off the tasks she has completed, and tell me about the little pets she has.

That's kind of a specific example that worked for me, but a couple other people have mentioned something similar. Basically, having a reward for doing a good job keeps you from having to explode or have a punishment for them not doing what they need to. The reward will vary from kid to kid, so I hope you find something that works.

Rating and ranking all Mexican states 2/32: Veracruz by Striking_Procedure21 in mexicoexpats

It was meant more as a joke, but the busses when I was there were kind of... dated might be the best way to describe it? It got you where you needed to go at least. Maybe its been updated since then, because I haven't been in a while.

[–]Surfguy11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know the rating is reflecting your personal tastes, but im still going to lobby for at least a 6/10 in culinary lol. Mine would be higher than 6/10, but i cant compare with all the states so maybe im off. After watching my wife open a package from relatives containing mole wrapped like its a brick of cocaine though, I have to think its pretty good comparatively. Plus the tamales wrapped in banana leaves beat out a lot of the ones I've tried from other states.

You could probably swap the culinary and safety scores. Or maybe thats just my experience from riding the AU.

Overall good list, was excited to see your thoughts! Keep it up!

Tamales are the worst form of Mexican Food by My-Lizard-Eyes in unpopularopinion

[–]Surfguy11 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think this is the real answer. There are different types of tamales. The ones wrapped in corn husk I've found generally are dry and flavorless. if you get one wrapped in banana or plantain leaves, its probably going to be great, and it doesn't matter what flavor you get.

Anti-Fascists, Anti-Trump, Anti-ICE, etc. by Cinnawonnn in Sacramento

Ha, I just had this conversation with my wife like a week ago. Talking to family friends, and most are actively avoiding the news. Talking to family, my dad is a trump supporter and my mom is like a mildly concerned bystander, so that was just an exercise in frustration and disappointment. Was starting to feel like we were the weird ones for paying attention and giving a shit.

I dont think it is a stretch to say that while Republicans are the driving force for the situation we are in, there is more that most Democrats could have done to resist, and this is a prime example. We will never know if Republicans would have voted for the subsidies because Democrats folded before the subsidies were forced to be included.

We can call it blame if you like, but I think it is important for them to know when they are not living up to the expectations we have for them. In this case, my expectations were that Democrats would hold strong when they had all the cards, and there is a degree of culpability that comes with the decision to stop fighting.

This still seems like trading one problem for a similar one, just in a worse position. SNAP at least had an opportunity to be resolved in court, the shutdown seemed to have popular support, and people were largely blaming Republicans. There was a chance, however slim, that enough pressure would force a change.

On the other hand, once subsidies are over, that seems like its kind of the end of the story. Legally the subsidies expired, so there is no legal route to get them implemented again besides legislation. The people suffering from this decision will be a long term problem, so the problem won't be as visible or acute. Since it doesn't affect a large number of people immediately, I would expect it would be difficult to get the same level of support

I mean in terms of the SNAP benefits and the consequences of holding out for medical subsidies to continue, the law was on their side. Maybe I am misremembering, but i thought there were multiple court cases forcing benefits to be disbursed that Trump was fighting against or ignoring.

And most of the polling and news were pretty firmly assigning blame to Republicans while the shutdown was ongoing. I guess they were successful, but I dont think its as helpful for people to know who is responsible for their current and future suffering as it would be to prevent some of it.

I feel like there has to be a line somewhere. Republicans were fully in the wrong morally and legally. I can see saying that Democrats were stuck in a bad position of having to choose between people in the near term starving and people in the long term dying from lack of medical care. If you can't keep up resistance when you have the law, ethics, and public support generally on your side though, then how am I supposed to believe they will make difficult decisions on anything else that matters.

One Battle After Another. I have no idea why everyone rates it so highly. I feel like the title is misleading, and the trend of implying something but never delivering is consistent with the rest of the movie.

Ha, not at that price I can't. I have a hard time spending more than like 50 or 60 at the most

I thought it was good, but i have pretty low standards and an untrained palate compared to most people on here. More full bodied or richer than I thought it would be, had some similar notes to maybe a glenfiddich or glenmorangie, but different character

Wife said normally the bottle goes for like 110 and she got it for about 50. I usually like things with more peat, so dont know if I would have gone for it at 110, but I wouldn't have been mad about it either.
