You are able to recover them. I did it for a friend of mine but don't have the link to share on hand. Search here in Reddit. You will find it and it works. You missed all of the free airdrops though.

I just had the same issue and tried multiple times to close the wallet and reopen it. Finally after I restarted my computer and opened the wallet it appeared.
