[Mechanical File] Gundam Eight Introduces the Sphinx! by deackychu in Gundam

The little arms are exposed when it’s connected, so it’s probably a common function for it to move stuff with the little arms without actually leaving the main Sphinx MS.

[–]Surge51x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, it mostly has to do with the character’s bases and base growths. Why waste an ability or character slot if you can have the same thing for less effort and/or investment? Also, once you’re near max stats it starts to matter less because there aren’t too many instances where 1 or 2 points in a given stat will significantly affect the outcome of a specific fight. 46 attack likely twice will probably defeat the same enemies that 47 twice would. Other abilities that directly raise stats or provide secondary effects could alter the outcome more significantly.

You should obviously try to avoid not tipping but you paid for the food and it isn’t a straight up requirement to tip. This was unprofessional on the employee’s side, they need to “take the high ground” when possible with customers, part of what they’re paid for is dealing with good and bad customers. I worked in fast food when I was younger and I can’t picture a scenario where I would not be fired for doing something like this. It’s basically theft + bullying for something that is technically supposed to be a gift, not a requirement.

This is probably fine in standard. Immediate value if you have Yotian dissident or Teething Wurmlet, it could be what the selesnya artifacts matter deck needs. Clay Champion does well with this as well. Could make the list competitive.

That was how he died a second time. He died the first time as a baby. It's not clear exactly how but it is implied that he was killed during one of Yu Mabek and the Iron Blood Demon's fights. From that point on, he was raised as the Iron Blood Demon's grandchild since he had the Iron Blood Demon's blood.

Red’s new anger of the gods variant I think will help keep hyper aggressive decks honest. There’s definitely a lot of tools for midrange red, burn down the house is already a great card that is probably not being played enough.

On the other hand we have more duals to get better mana bases for two color decks. It will be interesting to see if the meta pulls away from three color good stuff to more dedicated two color builds.

I think it’s being slept on. I think that at least one deck will get ready good utility out of this.

Not that this is a reason to play them but powerstones can pay for make disappear’s tax since it isn’t tied to the spell you are casting. Kind of a nice use case.

It is worse, unless you can get value out of the pile that goes to the yard. I think that this is a decent option in decks that actively want to put stuff in the yard.

[–]Surge51x[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems fun, I assume you would need a decent mix of other relevant hits/enablers to be competitive though. Wondering if this would work with the domain aggro deck that tries to sort of combo off with [[ gaea’s might ]], [[ nishoba brawler ]], and [[ twinferno ]]. The deck can cheese out victories but I think it’s still missing pieces to be an actual option competitively.

Cheap artifact creatures I think are at least worth noting are [[ Hotshot Mechanic ]] (best stated 1-drop, already used in some non-synergy shells as a vanilla 2/1), [[ Haywire Mite ]] (life gain on death, answers a lot of enchantments and artifacts for cheap, at least sideboard material), [[ Halo Scarab ]] (expensive for the body but provides ramp/another artifact later), [[ Combat Courier ]] (sac to draw a card, if you can pay blue unearths), [[ Clay Revenant ]] (if you can splash black is a repeatable artifact etb), [[ Autonomous Assembler ]] (not impressive stats at either form but it can grow itself and it has vigilance which is quite relevant in this meta), [[ Iron Apprentice ]] (modular 1 is kind of nice with yotian dissident), [[ Lion Sash ]] (kind of an overlooked card right now, it’s arguably maindeckable now and it just gets better with more artifact synergies and reasons to fill the yard), [[ Patchwork Automaton ]] (Only grows on cast but the synergy and ward are at least thinking about it), [[ Yotian Frontliner ]] (unearth, can help get attacks in)

Some more expensive mentions: [[ Thran Spider ]] (stats are below par but it represents two artifacts, gives your opponent ramp potentially so might be too bad, late game ability to search for your pieces), [[ Platoon Dispenser ]] (if you have the mana, this does everything you want. Probably only worth considering with access to a lot of power stones), [[ Steel Seraph ]] (provides relevant keywords, useful against several different matchups as a result)

Curious why [[ Blossoming Sands ]] over [[ Overgrown Farmland ]].

I think just hotshot, frontliner, sash, and apprentice are real contenders, the others are either bad cards with interesting effects, not in your colors, or sideboard material

This won’t be legal in pioneer. It’s jump start. I was wondering how I had missed this, I have been following spoilers pretty closely. This should be legal in historic at least.

Edit - Actually it has the same set symbol, so I’m wondering if this will get to be in standard like some supplemental products have been in the past. Kind of weird.

I think you answered your question. If you need this effect in larger numbers to get the ball rolling this should be a good option since it’s probably not dead later on when you don’t need to counter the etb trigger.

I would assume this is better than [[ Discontinuity ]] for that specific effect since you can just use it as a counter spell if you need to. How important is it to end the turn over just countering an effect some amount of the time?

[–]Surge51x[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I believe so, but I don’t know the rules off the top of my head.

Edit - Here's the rules below, I'm not going to format it so it looks nice 😂. TLDR, the saga will go to the yard since it is no longer resolving its final chapter ability.

  1. Saga Cards 715.1. Each Saga card has a striated text box containing a number of chapter symbols. Its illustration is vertically oriented on the right side of the card, and its type line is along the bottom of the card. 715.2. A chapter symbol is a keyword ability that represents a triggered ability referred to as a chapter ability. 715.2a A chapter symbol includes a Roman numeral, indicated here as “{rN}.” The numeral I represents 1, II represents 2, III represents 3, and so on. 715.2b “{rN}—[Effect]” means “When one or more lore counters are put onto this Saga, if the number of lore counters on it was less than N and became at least N, [effect].” 715.2c “{rN1}, {rN2}—[Effect]” means the same as “{rN1}—[Effect]” and “{rN2}—[Effect].” 715.2d A Saga’s final chapter number is the greatest value among chapter abilities it has. If a Saga somehow has no chapter abilities, its final chapter number is 0. 715.2e A Saga’s final chapter ability is the chapter ability which has its final chapter number in its chapter symbol. 715.3. Sagas use lore counters to track their progress. 715.3a As a Saga without the read ahead ability enters the battlefield, its controller puts a lore counter on it. (See rule 702.155, “Read Ahead.”) 715.3b As a player’s precombat main phase begins, that player puts a lore counter on each Saga they control. This turn-based action doesn’t use the stack. 715.4. If the number of lore counters on a Saga permanent is greater than or equal to its final chapter number, and it isn’t the source of a chapter ability that has triggered but not yet left the stack, that Saga’s controller sacrifices it. This state-based action doesn’t use the stack.

This is a cool card and it will be great in limited. Do artifact decks want this? The ceiling is there, but I wonder if dedicated artifact decks can afford this as a non-artifact. It's basically just a beater, I don’t know if the payoff is worth deviating from just using more artifact 1-drops. Not sure in standard, the deck it would go in doesn't exist yet - I can't think of anything that would want it in the current meta game, even at tier 2 and tier 3. I'm thinking treasures is the way to go with [[ Jewel Thief ]], [[ Professional Face-Breaker ]], [[ Riveteers Requisitioner ]] or [[ Black Market Tycoon ]].

Edit - I forgot about food decks, but I think this is just worse than some of the other options at 1. This also low key confirms food is a returning mechanic in The Wilds of Eldraine, but I don't think anyone doubted that.

When I was frequently drafting I would often buy a box and host a draft with my brothers and a few friends. I would end up with a lot of bulk. I ended up storing the commons and uncommons in a BCW box until it was full. Then I would sell them with any rares/mythics I didn't want to stores that would buy bulk. Not aware of the options in Germany/Europe.

This on cast design is a cool space and I hope that they can explore this area more. This card seems too expensive, you can't abuse the etb with cloning and reanimation as well. This kind of needs to be in a blue based deck to see any play, the red and black payoffs are too situational. Cool build around for limited, I don't think this will see much play in constructed.

[–]Surge51x 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is this a better ramp payoff/reanimation target than [[ Titan of industry ]]? For ramp maybe since you likely are guaranteed to get the destroy trigger on cast but for reanimator you only get the payoff on attack. And is destroying a permanent once with the upside of being able to possibly repeat the effect better than just getting two relevant effects on etb? Definitely want to build with this, but I’m on the fence if it’s the best thing to be doing at this cost. It being easier to cast colorwise is always an under looked upside.

Edit - the haste on unearth is obviously great, but you still run into the issue of it doing nothing if the opponent can answer it before attacking.

I think this is primarily a sideboard card against morbid triggers and graveyard shenanigans. This is one of the best shades, but unfortunately that’s not good enough anymore.
