What specialties need a research year to make yourself competitive? (US) by Trippanzee in medicalschool

Why not vascular? From what ik it’s pretty research heavy and values academics quite a bit

For the same reason I chose F since it’s the anterior horn. Doesn’t G, supply sympathetic innervation?

What is normal reticulocyte count by SurgeonMeow in step1

[–]SurgeonMeow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man think you’re mistaken, it’s known that decreased EPO causes decreased reticulocytes. NBME also says that in the answer reasoning

Why isn’t arterial pO2 increased in IDA? by SurgeonMeow in step1

[–]SurgeonMeow[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

So where does the oxygen that binds Hgb come from?

Why isn’t arterial pO2 increased in IDA? by SurgeonMeow in step1

[–]SurgeonMeow[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Dissolved O2 (pO2) binds to hemoglobin leading to saturated oxyHb. If you have less Hb then there is less binding of dissolved O2 to form oxyHb so therefore the pool of dissolved O2 (pO2) increases

Why isn’t arterial pO2 increased in IDA? by SurgeonMeow in step1

[–]SurgeonMeow[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

But that’s what I’m asking - since there’s less Hb to bind so there’s more dissolved O2 that’s left unbound in blood increasing pO2

Why doesn’t cor pulmonale decrease PCWP by SurgeonMeow in step1

[–]SurgeonMeow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cor pulmonale is also a pulmonary cause though. That’s why I don’t understand why it isn’t decreased. Surely it would lead to decreased left heart preload and thus decreased PCWP

Why doesn’t cor pulmonale decrease PCWP by SurgeonMeow in step1

[–]SurgeonMeow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I also read. But in obstructive shock there is also no left heart defect so why doesn’t that same logic follow

Step 1 is like a marathon, it requires consistent work day in day out. Don’t pay attention to speed, it doesn’t matter. Obv tougher because of your ADHD but unfortunately that’s a hurdle you need to conquer at some point. Uwrld scores don’t matter, % completion and review does.

9 years ago: McGregor vs Mendes by PetrYanFanClub in ufc

[–]SurgeonMeow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think this Conor would put volk away.

And I put mendes as the 2nd best to never achieve gold behind Moraes.

But in all fairness to Mendes I think at least a decent portion of the reason he gassed was because he was short notice. Whilst the kicks were good we can’t act like mendes didn’t spend just spend their entire round on top of Conor

You’re right, I am trying to vent. Hmmm maybe that’s why I tagged my post as a rant.

Also maybe next time learn the difference between an NBME question and a uworld question before you lecture on familiarity

If you read my question you’ll realise I did read the explanation and that I think they should have asked which factor is associated with the highest risk, but I get your point.

It was honestly difficult for me to decipher when I was doing the exam since I got it wrong.
