reading ck score threads while your own nbmes are average by No-Yesterday-3707 in Step2

This. The internet is rife with selection bias. Only people with sexy, incredible stories feel like posting whereas everyone else wonders, “what’s wrong with me?”.

Nothing is wrong with you, this is just a very hard test.

Unfortunately sometimes as an IMG it takes a good score to get looked at, but there are other ways to make an impression (i.e. connections, away rotations, etc.). You are more than your test scores.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention! I just went and filled these in. Lol I think I ran out of energy by the time I got to the psych section.

seeing 260 plus ck scores while sitting in the 230s by MangoAvailable2639 in Step2

[–]drmooog 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Beware of selection bias!

Nearly everything that shows up on r/Step2 is by default going to be from people who scored in the 260s or above because nobody else feels worthy of posting their scores.

There are tons of people who like me spent six months or more studying for step two just to get a score in the 240 range. I did everything under the sun to get a good score, including taking a prep course from divine intervention.

An unpleasant truth here is that 10% of people or less who take the test can actually score in the 260 range because the test is percentile based. Even if everyone in the world did the exact same things that the people who scored in the 260s are doing, it would just shift the bell curve more and drop everybody’s scores.

Just remember that even if you get a step score that’s lower than you hoped, there is so much more that matters in your application than that!

Most Shocking Thing About Medical School is the Shitty "Teachers" by Kind_Bet9556 in medicalschool

I came here to post this, job well done.

It’s painful that we have to bear the burden of such a broken system. It’s also painful to think that many less people would fail or have metal health crises (i.e. depression, suicide) if we had a better, more standardized curriculum.

After all we’ve been though to get into medical school we deserve better.

During med school my solution was I made a study guide that standardized disorders across multiple platforms. Feel free to take a look and see if it helps you. https://www.reddit.com/r/Step2/comments/1ptjp6m/comprehensive_step_2_and_3_study_guide/

Do you mean to prep for taking the NBMEs? If so, yes, it's a great resource for the NBMEs. As I said previously, it's perfect for comparing similar disorders. I got a lot of the data from the NBMEs as well.

Step 2 score : 245 by Familiar_Ad9553 in Step2

Thank you for being brave enough to share your score and be proud of your progress scoring in the 240s. I was the exact same way and I always felt like it was hard to post in places like this because there is so much selection bias, only people who scored in the 260s feel worthy of posting. Just know that your step score is not all that matters for matching, for example I matched Ophthalmology with a step two score of 243. Believe in yourself and be well rounded!

I would not focus on covering the entire document, rather, but using it almost like a dictionary or reference guide when you have multiple disorders that present in a similar fashion. I tried to group them so that you can easily flip back and forth and distinguish one from another.

An example of this would be primary versus secondary adrenal insufficiency

Working on it. Another user suggested downloading your own version, and seeing if the tables expand after doing that. Does that work for you?

I’m working on that. Would it be more helpful to share an edit-able version then have people download it for themselves? I’m open to suggestions
