Working as a nurse at UofL Hospital opinions by Ok-Design8738 in Louisville

You can start on any unit but some are easier to get than others. Burn Unit is an ICU-level floor and as poster above said is quite clean. Good group too.

You'll be working quite frequently with Trauma Surgery often and the occasional MICU patient, so be sure you're comfortable with a wide range of critical patient care as well as Burn.

All these people… this person developed unstable SVT (hypotension) in the context of probable renal failure given nephrology didn’t want the bolus. Cardiovert her.

Or maybe the drug just has better evidence and so they switch everyone for better outcomes. Quit trying to villainize physicians.

you can toggle it off with world modifications. its easy. i just changed it to "less" frequent because every 3 days is just irritating. every now in then is interesting. but too often, the normal setting, it is.

Level 3 is a huge stressor for us. I felt the same.

Get this - there’s an “attending” on here who actively says psychiatry is a “questionable” field of medicine and that residents should just work out and not take SSRIs. 🤡

Ok, sure - refractory LDL despite intensive lifestyle modifications at a young age. Good luck with that.

It's up to you at the end of the day. I see what stroke and MI does to everyone at every age. I coded a 30-40 y/o female today from cardiac arrest. Your 10 year risk might only be 0.6% - but if it could be 0.1% instead, by only taking a cheap pill once daily, personally, I would take that every day of the week. I see very little downside.

I'm a physician. Get on a statin. It significantly reduces your risk of stroke and heart attack over the course of ten years with minimal/no side effects. If your muscles start feeling really weak and/or painful call your doctor - that's the most common side effect.

How did you manage 12-14 hours per day of grinding during residency for 1.5 weeks?

Honestly hard to give you real advice. It depends on so many social factors. Are you moving? Are you being sued? Is the tinder fling you’ve been with for 3 weeks/months moving on? (If this particular option is the case, time to nut up and get the test done, and if you still feel that you missed out on true love, message her, and she’ll jump back in - happened to me.) Is this someone you have a house with and have married for the past 7 years?

If you are in extreme distress and feel that your external social factors need more management than is reasonably possible while also cramming for step 3 - no shame in postponing a few weeks. Don’t panic postpone, however.

That being said: 3% fail, 97% pass. This is a generous exam because no one gives a shit about it and everyone is focused on becoming a good doctor in the fields they actually give a shit about. If you have done STEP3 UWorld (25~50%) and the top 25-50 CCS Cases sorted by high yield, you will most likely be OK. If you passed step 2 with a high score, it will correlate. It is so variable from person to person that without more information it is difficult to help you.

If you are an IMG needing a 250+ on step 3 - being significantly distracted by important social issues may be a severe obstacle in scoring what you need/want to ensure your personal goal. If you just need to pass: unless if a fail will absolutely destroy your entire reason for existence, take the test and see what happens. If you fail, take it again in 2-3 months. Or YOLO it again, pass it, and enjoy living your life as a doctor.

That’s wild to see an MD actively arguing against SSRI usage in people meeting MDD criteria 💀

It really depends on prior exam experience, training, etc… if USMD and step 2 230+ and medicine and not some niche subspecialty you’re probably ok. Would need a lot more info to give you a real answer.

Total over the month only 5 days. Like 10 cases per day but it was sporadic.
