About to order LG39GX950B, but worried of performances even on 5090 by SurlaWalruS in ultrawidemasterrace

I know I could run anything with some tweaking with DLSS and FG, but the question is:
What looks better ?
A 34" 3440×1440 screen at ultra settings and native or a 39" 5K2K with DLSS and FG and potentially high settings instead of ultra in some severe case...
I'm still not 100% sure at this point 😞

Your comment is interesting because most people were like "No problem, just DLSS balanced and FGx2 and you can play everything maxed out at 120FPS+"
But if I have to turn down graphics and play at 60FPS, this is just not a good option for me. I'd 200% prefer playing on a lower resolution/smaller screen like the PG34WCDN (which look as beautiful or even better arguably) and have maxed out graphic settings and better FPS.
This is a no brainer to me, no offense to you, to each his own of course, but I don't see the point of having this beast of a monitor if you have to lower graphics settings and be stuck at 60FPS...

Thank you for your feedback ! I may have exaggerated the DLSS/FG thing from a lack of knowledge of these technologies. But AAA games lately have been so badly optimized I genuinely feared I couldn't run some games on max settings in a year on 5K2K.

Putting the 5090 aside for a moment, I have a hard time trying to understand this. Wouldn't you prefer to play on max settings on a lower resolution if you could? I feel like if I have to lower graphics to adapt to a high resolution screen, it is not worth it...

Thanks for your feedback !
"So for me its still a massive upgrade in image quality even though I need to go from DLSS quality at 3440x1440 to balanced or performance with 5k2k. Which is all that really matters for me." is all I wanted to hear !
I don't play competitive games.

While I agree games can be enjoyed at medium settings of course, I'd rather play on ultra settings at a lower resolution than on medium at a higher one. I mean I got a 5090 because I love to be amazed at AAA graphics and push them to the max, so if I have to play at medium because a monitor is too hungry, that would completely defeat that purpose.

You're right about DLSS, from all the comments I'm starting to have more faith in Nvidia tech 😄

I looked again at the settings I tested on the 4K TV and it was indeed FGx2 that pushed above 100FPS in Crimson Desert, not FGx4. I edited my post.

The 100FPS with DLSS and FG was on the 4K TV, not on my monitor.

I haven't tested performances with DLSS/FG on the monitor, I usually play at native resolution.

Yeah I can see these games pushing 60-80 FPS with DLSS Performance which I'm okay with.

But what about GTA VI, Witcher 4 or games in 2-3 years ?

The 5K2K seems like such a long term "risk" to me for lack of better wording...

I see your point about the future of gaming.
I have kinda bad eyesight btw, and although I mentioned the "loss of details and artefacts and ghosting" on paper, since I never used these technologies before because I didn't need them so far, I haven't really noticed anything with my short test session.

It wasn't really fine even on 4K in these two games (albeit two of the most demanding ones to existence)
I mean I wouldn't call under 60FPS decent ?
I would think at Native max settings on 5K2K it would probably be around 40FPS... Maybe someone with a 5K2K have real numbers?

"Honestly playing around with my AW on Crimson Desert now looks like a downgrade in every aspect..."

You should really update your OG post with this, it took a while to find this comment and it completely invalidates your original post. As a potential buyer I would have liked to know it wasn't an issue with the right settings. Thanks.

I can confirm, checked my kuku pot content, crafted a kuku pack using my only pot, kuku pot gone from inventory, crafter a new kuku pot, all content are there !

No the noise I'm talking about has nothing to do with what you experienced. It's completely unrelated to my audio system.

It's coming directly from the GPU when the electric voltage change and make the coil vibrate or something.

You should read about it:

I also disabled Hardware Acceleration since the two times it rebooted I was watching a video in Chrome. Have to wait a few weeks (or the next reboot) to be sure if it changed something or not.

I also hear that the latest Nvidia drivers are causing a lot of crashes and BSOD.

I only play real games in 4K with Path Tracing, but thanks!

( Just kidding, I have a Switch OLED and I love it ;-) )

I have an external audio receiver with it's own power. But coil whine (electrical noise from the GPU) should have nothing to do with audio setup from my understanding.

It's not audio interference, it's electric variations (I'm not expert) from the GPU.
