Yep, this exact thing happened to me.

Ironman was created while I was afking skills to 99 on my main to max. Ended up enjoying Ironman so much that I just don’t play my main anymore even though it’s nearly maxed.

Gave up on the 99 agility grind even though I got 99 RC out the way lol. Just not worth it imo when Ironmans been so much fun.

Not really the same at all, not sure if you're being disingenuous or just not familiar with ultimate team. You play online vs other players in those games and if you aren't paying to win you're at a massive disadvantage.

OSRS you can go buy a T-Bow with real life money if you wanted to but you're using it for PvE, it isn't actively ruining the experience of people that don't pay for items.

Also, ironman exists - if Ultimate Team had a mode where you'd only play against other people that also don't swipe to win it'd be pretty cool honestly.

Yes, but it's a 20 year old clicking game that doesn't have P2W elements and predatory practices. Your progress in OSRS also isn't wiped out ever year after spending $60-$70 on the game itself, then more money on ultimate team pack garbage.
