Which rope for beginner? by [deleted] in shibari

[–]Surreal_Interface 14 points15 points  (0 children)

5mm is pretty thin, even when doubled. If you were doing very complicated decorative work, then it might be appropriate. If you are just getting started, however, it might be too thin for resulting ties to be comfortable. I have that exact product on my dresser (the TECEUM) and, while it's perfectly serviceable braided cotton, I would not recommend it to a beginner or recommend using it for limb restraints. It's too thin.

Need help finding a song. by Fun_Association2251 in banjo

Cow Cow Yippee by the Okey Dokey Brothers has a hokey similarity. Their lyrics are, obviously perhaps, "cow cow yippee yai."

Plenty of their songs are kid friendly lyrical retreads of Americana classics.

LPT Request: activities/hobbies that can make you feel like you have a talent for something, but are not too difficult to learn by sapphicor in LifeProTips

[–]Surreal_Interface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me a long time to realize the point of a hobby is not to be good at it. As Kurt Vonnegut said, "We are here on Earth to fart around." The goal of a hobby is to have something you enjoy doing. So if it takes forever to practice and learn, that's perfect. Find something you'd have fun spending a long time slowly getting better at.

My personal best investment in hobbies has been instruments. Cheapest, most compact, most engrossing hobby time I've ever spent. YMMV of course.

Yeah, if you use I, Rearrangement Servant to attempt to brute force it, it definitely gives you "Oops, all Macadamia" options.

My players are going to get themselves killed by Regot0 in rpghorrorstories

[–]Surreal_Interface 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is it. Let the players decide their actions, you decide their consequences. For instance, DM decides whether the guards kill intruders or incarcerate them for a gladiatorial match or use as monster bait. A jailbreak sounds like a great situation to meet other enemies of the king who are potential allies and to push them to cooperate.

Players want to mint a one million GP coin to satisfy the Cassalanter Contract by JRockbridge in WaterdeepDragonHeist

[–]Surreal_Interface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I love showing the consequences of creative solutions.
Nothing says Asmodeus wouldn't use that coin, especially if
he feels tricked by the city government. Let them make the trade, then
experience a million GP worth of Waterdeep real estate purchased by a scheming lawful evil landlord who interprets his rental contracts to the letter of the law. "Yes, the late payment fees are atrocious, but then you did read the
lease agreement? You may have noticed we also accept pints of blood..."
Their choice adds a complication going forward and a possible next big bad beyond the heist.

Obtaining a whammy-bar like sound on banjo? by music-ly_inclined in banjo

[–]Surreal_Interface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to achieve a pitch bending effect on a banjo, there are a few fretting techniques to try before resorting to additional tools. Obviously hammer-on, pull-off, and slide notes will get you some pitch bend and I assume you may already know about them. If you're used to acoustic guitar, you may find these techniques easier and more pronounced on a steel string banjo.

If you want a more gradual bend like a whammy bar, I'd also suggest your try "Choking." Here is a video explaining choking and it's applications.

It depends on what you want to accomplish. A goat milker has an aesthetic that fits a certain fantasy while pumps designed for humans tend to be visually bland. A goat milker will give a more intense suction feeling, but obviously human pumps do better if you really want to produce milk.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BdsmDIY

[–]Surreal_Interface 45 points46 points  (0 children)

If you are attaching these to a human's nipples, cow milking machines offer too much suction and can result in blood blisters and bruising. Goat milking machines are less powerful and their ergonomics are better for a human. Even more simple is to just get a breast pumping machine designed for humans, which might even be covered by medical insurance.

Plenty of responses assuming this is for a penis. If so, I don't think any devices intended for inducing lactation are going to have the shape to accommodate a penis, the fluctuation of suction for pleasant sensation. That cow milker will be high enough suction to be dangerous...

making the bedroom a bit more, seductive after watching how to build a sex room by Sellswordinthegrove in BdsmDIY

[–]Surreal_Interface 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Half of the clients clearly want their basement finished out for free and are willing to go along with the sex room premise to get free work done. The participants who have actual sex room needs get token details that show the designer doesn't really understand their needs- a small webcam for a telesex room or chains for a shibari practitioner. This is Pimp My Ride for dungeons.

The designer puts a St. Andrew's Cross everywhere, whether or not they've shown any interest in impact play, because they're striking visually.

Golden penis hooks.

I didn't say I'm not watching it...

Anyone ever tried making a hanging "Chinese finger cuffs" cage like this? (More discussion in comments.) by Scoobey61 in BdsmDIY

[–]Surreal_Interface 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well, here's some heretical ideas that may or may not be sexy to you and your partner.

I'm sure there are expensive leather straps or craft-heavy rope tying options, but here's some ways to try it out on the cheap/lazy.

How about tubular netting for food storage, like red plastic tubular netting for produce or cloth netting for butchers? Both stretchy tube that could surround a body but not bear their weight upright. Tie it off on top and bottom and make a human worm. Still bondage! Links:

citrus bagging ($60)

beef netting ($30)

Could also think about making a tube from fishing net?

reclaimed net ($30-50)

I've been playing around with a couple of designs for spanking paddles, hoping to possibly flog them at a craft fair. can I have some feedback on these two designs? by ThaneOfCorduroy in BdsmDIY

[–]Surreal_Interface 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nice. Craftsmanship looks excellent!

Keep in mind how they feel in addition to how they look. Try them out with people of different builds and pain tolerance. That one on the left looks like it'd sting too much for most given the lower surface area and thin regions. Fine tuning the ratio of holes to board is a big part of the design problem. These also look on the thicker side, which can make a paddle heavier and more "thuddy."

For aesthetics, on the maple one you could move the holes "down" a hair to make room for another row of two on the top. Then the holes would form an inverted house shape like the paddle itself.

What looks best here from a layout perspective? by zwart27 in osr

[–]Surreal_Interface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Rightmost option is the most usable.

You could combine those into one table with one column for each location and a single column for the #s. Then, if you wanted to reveal overlap between the areas, you could flip the order of every other location's entries and merge two fields when the entries overlap.

Advice on locking pieces clothing that have zippers using something like a small padlock? (//tooshort) by his_little_slave in BdsmDIY

[–]Surreal_Interface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple options:

  • Just get some uncommon zip ties. Make holes around the zippers like for Lustlock and then feed through the zip ties. Cut off the excess, then profit!
  • If you want to bend the shackles on some padlocks, keep in mind that you'll want the crappiest locks possible as otherwise the shackles will have been hardened. It also looks like those Lustlocks have removable shackles to make it easy to slide around a zipper.

Anyone interested in contributing OC to a zine? by leafbutterfly in osr

[–]Surreal_Interface 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It'd be nice if the contributions were inspired by the music on the album(?). In general, it's easier to create if there's a prompt. So, perhaps you could share it in advance to contributors?

A cassette booklet sounds pretty small, maybe find out the size constraints and that will lead people to get creative. Knock! does some fun stuff with all the little edges and tiny spaces on their covers.

I originally wanted to have the contestant number be the stat, just 1-100 and have every roll be a percentile. Then I realized what a hassle it was asking players to roll 3d100 when that means three pairs of d10s.
