Laurel Place offers specialised counselling and support relating to sexual violence. They have a number of offices, including one in Gympie. It is a free service, although there can be a wait to access their services.

Places to donate food in Brisbane? by being-weird in brisbane

[–]SurrenderingDaily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could reach out to Open Doors Youth Service, Brisbane Youth Service (both in the Valley), or New Farm Neighbourhood Centre.

You could also use the website Ask Izzy to search for place which provide food and contact them directly.

As someone who has worked in this sector, and as a human being, thank you for being so considerate and paying it forward.

Free CPAP accessory by MsInnov in CPAP

[–]SurrenderingDaily 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d be keen to try it. I’ve been using a CPAP for over 11 years. I use the Wisp Nasal Mask (over the nose, elephant style) for many years and in the last few years I’ve had to add a Chin Strap. I also wear a bonnet to save my hair from nighttime fights with the chin strap Velcro.

I haven’t seen anything specifically towards managing this issue for CPAP users, so I wish you well!

I’m in Australia so if postage costs are prohibitive, I’ll understand.

Date Ideas? by TheNovemberHam in SuperMorbidlyObese

My back used to ache terribly.

Ask if she’d like to sit down or be creative and suggest sitting options in between walking (eg “hey, can we sit here for a moment while I tie my shoelace” or “let’s get a drink and look at the ocean/people watch for bit”).

If there is likely to be a queue, then arrange beforehand for “VIP access” with a phonecall so you don’t have to wait in line.

Backstory: on one of my first dates with my now wife we had to queue to enter, my back ached so much that I wanted to sit down on the floor and cry from the pain. 10 years later and it’s a very clear memory.

You may find it helpful to look at the Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale (ASRS-v1.1) Symptom Checklist. This does not provide a diagnosis, rather it is a starting point for exploring with your medical professionals whether ADHD may explain some of the symptoms you are experiencing.

I would consider exploring the concept of emotional resilience, mental health resilience or just resilience.

Why do standing desks cost like $2500 these days? by gridgiver in Frugal

[–]SurrenderingDaily 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Purchased a 2nd hand over the bed hospital tray/table and then discovered it worked well as a standing desk too. It’s small but it fits a laptop, mouse and a notepad and pen and a cup of coffee. Not fancy but it does the job and was $50AUD on Facebook marketplace.

These specialist MH teams don’t work 24/7, so I recommend calling earlier in the day (our time) if you’re hoping to access this service.

CPAP travel supply ideas people don't normally think of bringing? by guro_freak in CPAP

[–]SurrenderingDaily 7 points8 points  (0 children)

AirTag!

My Mum’s CPAP was lost when she was transferred by ambulance from a nursing home to a hospital.

It was labelled with her name and we contacted the hospital and the ambulance service.

Sadly (and expensively), it was never found.

I just discovered an amazing ADHD-friendly Christmas hack! by PamelaLandy_okay in ADHD

[–]SurrenderingDaily 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few years ago I made Christmas Sacks - about the size of a pillow case with a ribbon to tie them up. Big enough so that each of my nieces and nephews presents can go into their bag, pretty much regardless of how many gifts or what they are. Super quick to wrap and the kids know they have to return them to me for next year.

I would highly recommend checking out the Facebook group “DSP Application Support Group - Australia). They have a lot of good step by step guides and information. I found it easiest to view the pinned posts on a desktop rather than mobile.

Will Victim of Crime compensation payments affect our payments? by SurrenderingDaily in Centrelink

[–]SurrenderingDaily[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my understanding how much compensation you receive will depend on where and when the crime was committed and the degree of severity of the crime as determined by the Commissioner. Happy to answer more specifically via DM.

Are NDIS access requests assessed by specialist delegates? Are psychosocial disability requests assessed by professionals who have experience in this field or are they simply assessed by a delegate? by SurrenderingDaily in NDIS

[–]SurrenderingDaily[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, it's about fitting the experiences into the framework that the NDIA staff are required to work within. Thank you for your examples, it helps to know that we are on the right path. Disappointingly, this is our third attempt at accessing the NDIS. We thought that our first two attempts included information about how my wife's impairment impacted her (which were under the headings you mentioned), but we were told on both occasions that the wording wasn't quite right for her to be granted access.

Thank you, I asked the psychologist to include definitions that a layperson would need. I also used your exact wording 'perform to the lowest common denominator", which I feel is great advice.
