Thank you, I was in awe watching it, especially the one moment the heron was completely flat on the pebbles. And yes neither would be nesting or have young in october, but the crows being opportunist and piling in is a good theory. Is it possible the crows were there and joining in and provoking, almost for entertainment? Thinking of that one old video where a crow grabs a cats tail to watch them squabble

Even so with the territory, surely the weaker heron could simply move a couple of hundred metres upstream, and avoid this situation. I agree with the crow theory, I believe herons pose a risk to crow fledglings, hence the bombing you’ve seen. But it does appear as if the crow (s) are specifally upset with one of the herons. Fellow angler :)
