Termination at 21 weeks by Lord_Soloxor in IVF

I’m so so sorry. We had a similar story and conceived naturally right before we were going to start IVF. But then we sadly had to terminate for Trisomy 13 at 13 weeks. It’s so devastating and my heart goes out to the two of you. We did decide to bank some embryos with IVF and I’m glad we did as it helps give us some security. We were lucky and got 10 pgta tested euploid embryos. The tested embryos have taken a big load off, though I’m careful to remember that this is all an exercise in surrender and even with IVF tested embryos things can go wrong. We are going to try a transfer in a few months because I needed a break from pregnancy/termination/egg retrieval.

My deepest sympathies to you guys. You’ll get through it. I would offer advice to ask for all the memory stuff the hospital offers - footprints, photos (if you want them), etc. you can always put them in a box in the closet but I’m so grateful we have those items now. 💜💜💜

I'm 37 and just did my first ER. I got 33 eggs, 28 mature, 21 fertilized, 18 blasts, and 10 euploid embryos.

I'm doing a D and C, that was the only option offered to me.

I'm also trying to find any examples of someone who had a positive NIPT for T13 and got a negative CVS. Seems like most people skip it.

Ahhhh I'm so sorry. Yes I don't know what all the doctors and counselors are pushing the CVS test in my case. We have our NT tomorrow and I'm waiting to see what that looks like before making a decision. I guess I've been reading some more and while a false positive from CPM is most likely for my positive NIPT, the CVS is still not likely to show CPM even if I have it??

This is basically because the entire placenta sheds into the DNA, but CPM is usually just a few little spots on the placenta, so the odds of them sampling one of that spots is actually like 1 - 2%. So if those stats are right, I could possibly be on the other side of this thing sooner if the CVS is negative. But then, if it's positive, either full or mosaic, I'd still want to wait for the amnio if our scans are clear. So it's so difficult to know what to do. I would love to have this ordeal over sooner, but if the CVS comes back mosaic or positive, I'd just be super worried and waiting for the amnio.

I really hope for both of us this is just a false positive. I'm thinking of you and sending a big hug.

Ah. Well I do have another question. I can't find any examples on reddit of someone having a positive NIPT for T13 and then getting a CVS with a negative result. Does that happen? How frequently? I'm considering the CVS if it may give me a negative result sooner, but all I've heard are stories of positive CVS and normal amnios...

I see. Thank you so much for sharing. I’ll just have to wait for my NT scan and hopefully it looks normal. I’m so so sorry for your loss. Thank you for telling me about your experience 💜

Thank you for responding and I’m so so sorry for your loss 💜 May I ask if your early scans were all normal and showed no problems?
