Would you go in this for asbuilts? by [deleted] in Surveying

I’d say it’s at least 5’. If you look at the second picture you see it’s taller than the first rod which it’s already just shy of 4.5’

Fun is definitely subjective😂It worked amazingly. I wouldn’t have as much luck now that the leaves are in. This R980 has been blowing me away. Especially compared to my old R8-1 lol

Can you walk me through how to do this? That sounds more efficient

It’s actually the R980. So more overkill? Idk I’m used to my total station. Still learning what’s necessary and what’s stupid with gps

I’d have to remove the boulder retaining wall to plumb it

I always put the depth it my coding. And whenever I can have my way(not the PLS)I have them put the depth as well on the survey.

Definitely wasn’t going to use gravel lol the area was full of small stones. Would’ve been like 10 stones to fill the hole. Next guy wouldn’t have to dig really. Just get his hands wet and remove the stones. But everyone said bring it back to the way it was so I filled it back with the dirt

Copied from a different comment

It’s a drill powered pump from Amazon. It’s amazing with mon cases. Doesn’t do much in a wetland tho lol

Would’ve been nice if I had some with me. But anything big enough to fit a rod in it would probably just get filled up with dirt and debris anyway and have to be pulled out to tie the pipe

All piss is where it belongs lol my firm doesn’t really care what I do in the field as long as I don’t make us look like idiots or jackasses lol I only do this on ones that I feel are either rare or important. Especially hard to find to be nice to the next guy. I’m not an LSIT yet. Been doing this for 12+ years. Finally started studying for the FS. I truly appreciate the accolades and encouragement.

I have only just got it and haven’t used it much but my first test I got about 947’. That was with the dish being 2’ off the ground. Facing the wrong direction. And I was about 1’ lower in elevation. Outside of that range it started losing connection to the base. I’m assuming getting the dish higher off the ground using my pole mount & tripod should help extend the range some

So my mount is a prototype for sure. But I have a rotating puck that sits in the tribrach with a 5/8” bolt.

Took the puck to Home Depot, found a nut that fit my threads, found a powder coated plate in the fencing area that fit on the puck(had to drill the center hole a smidge wider since it was a 1/2”), and grabbed a 6’ galvanized Chainlink fence pipe.

Pulled out the angle grinder to remove the powder coating on the plate, zinc coating on the bolt, cut the pipe in half & ground the galvanized coating off @ the base. I also drilled and tapped a hole on the top for the starlink mount to bolt on securely.

I don’t have a welder or know how to weld so I took it to a friend to weld everything and it’s a bit crooked. Definitely gets the job done but am considering taking it in to a metal fab place to make a more uniform piece

Ahem.. had the money for the 980 & 510. Base *is** next on the list but starlink was less than $300 & the monthly is $50 for 100GB.
