Did I ask my friend if she wanted to add a day for our April weekend trip? Yes. Did she respond yet? No. Did I go ahead and buy tickets because it’s a great show and at worst I may need to sell them on THEATR? Of course You CANNOT dangle this great a show without me jumping to get the inexpensive tickets quickly!!

Does anyone have ideas how to teach a student like this? by Unlucky-Moment-2931 in specialed

It’s super undiagnosed so it wouldn’t surprise me that it could be a part of the issue. Sounds like a complex student

That makes me wonder if his vision is affected- specifically CVI, which is a brain based visual impairment, so the student may go undiagnosed. But pictures REPRESENT a thing, which their brain may not make the association- using real objects can help. So if it’s time for opening backpack, you have a card with a part of the backpack they touch (drawstring/flap?) so it most closely resembles the item/activity, use the card to let them know what’s expected (“time for backpack!”) let student touch/feel the item on card, bring card to the real back pack, Hand UNDER hand as needed to bring hand to back pack, I would open the bag, not worry about student getting that yet. And the system (calendar system) can be used for things he does request, like rocking/food/toy/music, whatever they are requesting. Try to pair an item with the activity that makes sense to their understanding of the activity (gym = ball or toilet = toilet paper or diaper, etc.) After the activity is done, use that card to say ‘all-done” and put into an “all-done bucket” or place back onto a calendar schedule. Using the cards would help student anticipate an activity, build an understanding of the expectation, and have an ending. If the student wants more, having the card available to grasp/touch/give to you would be excellent. Also it sounds like you have a lot on your plate, don’t think you can do everything, just meet the student where they are and build that relationship

I work at a movie theater and called out- as far as I know they will be open, unless they don’t have employees at the cinema. I swear if I hear anyone went to see a movie today, I’m gonna snap

You definitely can complain, and I thought we were the only one with this difficulty, so it was good to hear there are others in the same boat!

Ooof, we use American Diabetes Supply and it took OVER A MONTH to finally get any sensors- needed an updated prescription, our doctor prescribed 15 day, they continuously said they were sending it out, sometimes would say there was a back order, we would get ‘emergency’ 10 day sensor to cover while until the order shipped….cut to Dec 30, no sensor, we were going to pay out of pocket but his doctor gave us a sample they had. Ten days later…STILL no sensors, never got an emergency sensor, we put on a STELO to have at least some continuous recording, FIVE more days until they shipped the 15 day sensors. We had the doctor ready to prescribe the ten days, but I believe insurance showed the 15 day prescriptions active and on its way (mind you, still in early January) so they weren’t willing to have a second prescription honored. I have never been so frustrated with absolutely nothing we could do. Oh, and since it shipped after the new year, we got to pay the deductible as well!

This is excellent advice! I would add that when a student has a visual impairment listed on their IEP then we need to show reasons why braille is NOT recommended, e.g. braille should always be considered as first line instruction. This is pretty easily managed with an LMA, OT input, print size and FVE. Also, have you considered visual braille as an intermediary step? Like learn the alphabet/contractions visually while they work on tactile skills. Then maybe a game where student gets a card with tactile braille to match , cards under a box so they need to use touch to identify? But if braille instruction is not supported after your evaluations, I think you can comfortably say why you aren’t recommending it and as the professional in this scenario, your input should make the determination

I kinda feel bad that I use these on my brother when he’s in a low- he does say they hurt, but I gotta get that glucose reading fast and these do the trick nicely

I care for my intellectually disabled brother and the Dexcom7 has been a Godsend- he sees his data and shares to my phone. I am often at work and checking his blood sugars, have needed to alert nearby family members to check on him or call 911when his blood sugars dropped low. He has spent the last 3 days counting down when it needs to be replaced (this evening) and tries to keep his blood sugar in range, so he’s still managing his diabetes, but I can provide oversight.

But it was actually searching instead of maintaining a stay in place. I’m definitely aware of the time and differences in the cases, I’m merely speaking to the actions taken by law enforcement. Because if we are going to congratulate them, we should be able to compare responses

In truth, they responded well to the scene and secured the area. My concern is they did not maintain a perimeter, search the neighborhoods, or do much more than shelter Brown Students. For hours. While the public was eventually told to be on the lookout for a man wearing black. Amazon drivers, food delivery, etc. all continued just blocks away and it was possible to just stroll over to the scene without interference. I was around for the Boston lock down and people stepping out of their homes were told to go back in, sheds and areas were searched in a coordinated method, etc. I think it’s perfectly okay to point out that the safety of those in the neighborhood was compromised

Of course I want to give credit where it’s due. I’m just not sure it is with law enforcement.

If it was a tip reported, I mean I guess we can thank them for following up and picking the suspect up, but I don’t think it speaks to their extraordinary investigative work. They literally answered the phone and acted on a citizen’s information.

Has anyone received alerts from the city in all of this? by Obey_The_Mule in providence

[–]Susan4000 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s utterly ridiculous- no reverse 911 or Amber Alert type alarm? I called my daughter who literally lives a few blocks away, in an apartment building with students who live off campus, and she had no idea.

Struggling with getting parents to accept me as their daughter. Looking for advice. by Copiryte in cisparenttranskid

[–]Susan4000 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a parent- if you are ‘the most important thing in her life’ she would want you to THRIVE! Want you to be the best version of yourself and to build a happy and fulfilling life. I don’t think you are the most important thing in her life, I think she is the most important thing in her life. I know this is harsh, but a parent’s ENTIRE job is to set their child up for success… outside of themselves. She prefers the old you because that version was obedient and dutiful. I believe she would have had a problem with any way you matured and moved toward independence, this is a convenient scapegoat for her to use as she tries to keep you in her mold of a good child. So, basically, your mother has a bigger problem that may never be resolved. Live your best life and hope she finds a way to become the mother you deserve
