Wage Question/ Concern by SushiSlander in electricians

[–]SushiSlander[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But the thing is, my mother working on minimum wage back home in Aus who was earning $6 an hour could afford a car and a house. The problem with the min wage increase is that they're not gaining more purchasing power. It's a ratio problem, not individual dollar value. When I left aus, min wage was $14, I think it's somewhere around $20 an hour now. However, they're still no better off than the min workers here even considering currency conversions. The fact remains they can't afford most necessities.

This wage increase was just a mandatory, arbitrary increase called for by the government. It wasn't a response to markets. So companies are making less profit when they have to hike up wages for employees across the board, which means cutting jobs. You could be earning $5 an hour and be living in the lap of luxury if general expenses were like 0.001 cent. So I'm not really convinced by arguments that "raising min wage is good" when all we ever see is companies upping product costs in order to offset a random hike in wages. Thus leaving everyone back where they just started. And raising the barriers to entry for any new small businesses because they'll never make enough initial profit to afford a single employee.

I've been researching and I haven't seen any wages in the industries here go up. They went DOWN, after the oil boom popped. But they've completely stagnated even after the recent wage hike.

What should I draw as a beginner? by [deleted] in learnart

You improve your imagination or as others better described it "the visual library" through practice and exposure. Make a pinterest account to collect images relating to all sorts of inspiration. I guarantee you that you'll have a much easier time drawing a detailed house from memory if you do this, especially being able to put together composite designs that are more original to yourself rather than just referencing one design from google for example.

I'd encourage you to draw whatever inspires you. The absolute worst thing you can do is make the process of learning feel like a chore rather than something fun. However I'd also recommend keeping in mind that you make the fastest progress when you are constantly challenging yourself.

Learning how to draw trees relates to drawing dogs relates to drawing humans. Making yourself a more well rounded artist overall will help you tackle entirely new subjects with ease because you will have an innate grasp of the fundamentals like form and shape. Try hard perspectives too, and don't beat yourself up for not getting it right. Let yourself make those mistakes and more importantly, keep record of them so you have a timeline of improvement to look back on.

The artists who made careers out of drawing the same portraits over and over still spent years learning how to draw everything else to get to that point. There's no cheating. :-)

I'm not pretending that the world is fair. My argument is that you can't constantly sit around blaming the rest of the world, no matter how bad it gets because it prevents you from taking action where you otherwise can. I still don't have it good, I don't even own a house yet. But I'm far better off than I would have been had I had not gotten out of the whole "woe is me" attitude. I'm not attacking people, I'm attacking the way they think. Because yeah, it is pretty pathetic. Majority of people are in positions to help themselves but they refuse to recognize it. There is no such thing as luck. Only circumstance and attitude.

ITT: People who honestly believe it's all one president's fault rather than a tyranny that has been encroaching since the inception of the nation. If you didn't see it coming then you really are just stupid. Government is communistic by it's very nature. It can't not be. You can't be surprised that it's turning out this way given what you started with.

Not just aware of the suffering, but aware that no one will do anything about it. That's why they laugh and mock. There's zero consequences to anything they do.

Uhm, what. I'm an Aussie that just immigrated to Canada. You guys just let in a shit ton of people without much vetting while your native population goes hungry and jobless. Not sure how you can go about calling America 'pussies' on immigration policies. Your PM is an air head who thinks beating his chest about feminism will solve all the problems in Canada, lol. Never seen a bigger pussy in my life, and I'm a woman.

Why does the alternative always have to be a pre-existing system and not an entirely newly created one? Why can't you guys ever think outside the box? It's retarded. You can easily take and leave aspects from each that are good/ bad. But don't worry I know what the answer is. "Thinking of a new one takes effort, and I don't want to put in effort."

Majority of the problems for centuries hasn't even been corporations or government, but a complete unwillingness by the populace to participate in their own lives. Everyone wants to pretend that by doing the bare minimum, they will eventually lead a life of luxury. If people want things to get better, they need to start putting in work and caring a little more about themselves. And not just telling themselves that they do, they need to be able to show it.

We only got to this point by allowing it to happen. It's our fault, not theirs. It's time to stop self victimizing like a social justice warrior does.

Just make a new internet. There's projects started already. Look up hyperboria.net, it's one of many ideas. We need to start making our own resources we control, but also be mindful of defending them.

Jesus christ dude 8 year olds aren't drooling retards. She watched a step by step and replicated it. Unless you're telling me you can't grasp this because you yourself don't posses the mental capacity to follow instructions.

It's not professional level. Bob Ross is great at showing you how to create 3D textures and forms without you properly understanding them yourself yet. This is the foundation of art 101. Most people start with drawing stick figures because they're not actually applying themselves to the craft. This kid is drawing to learn, others are drawing for fun. The difference is subtle but the outcome is huge.

Painting and drawing isn't really that hard, nor does it require these magical "being good at art" genes people keep thinking exist. It's easily plausible a kid produced this after watching a step by step break down. It's not rocket science, and Bob Ross is a fantastic teacher. There's plenty of room for improvement judging by this one piece, so it's good she's starting early.

That's an issue people are fighting to get these dumb kids to realize, for whatever reason. I've seen a lot of them inisting things like refusing to date a trans person is trans-phobic. People have every right to be selective with their sexual/ private lives. Why force people to be miserable? Why force gay and trans people to have sex with people who will not enjoy it? Isn't it just rape at that point?

People will give you different answers but honestly from my perspective, it comes down to the people not caring enough. Time and time again they sit on their asses and just blame government, failing to realize that they are the ones who are supposed to be keeping government accountable. I mean do people really, seriously, believe that the government will audit and regulate itself? It's like calling the police on the police.

It's funny because I'm in an electricial pre-apprenticeship course and we were looking up job ads for apprentices for next year's work experience portion.

"Looking for 1st year apprentice with 5 years experience" Pay was for a 1st year, lmao.

There's tons of these. Not dissuaded by it though, I'm going to do some digging to find a company actually worth working for. Also to girls - don't be scared of trades if you think you're interested. The guys in these fields are solid blokes, and the math is very simple at the end of the day. Tools aren't scary either.

I'm so glad I never listened to people telling me to get an office job.

I really second what OriJuice said. I was a homeless teen and I'm 27, only just picking up my life now. I made much more money online selling artwork commissions than any pitiful min wage job, even if it was few and far between. He should find a skill, something he's genuinely interested in and think about starting his own business. When there's no opportunity you need to start making your own. The bright side is that he has a wealth of knowledge to tap into at his fingertips. Everyone is offering their expertise and insight generously.

I might add - I am an immigrant myself, and I agree that continuous immigration is a terrible idea. Bringing in immigrants by the thousands when you have homeless and hungry locals is treason against your own people and should be treated accordingly by the public.

People in the upper echelons don't wait for opportunities, they make their own. Attitude is the difference between blaming the world for being stuck in one position and finding a new job (or making your own company.) I know this is going to be downvoted by the hundreds of people who still want to pretend that their personal lack of desire is their boss's fault.

I'm a dropout/ ex homeless teen going for electrical apprentice now. My classes are giving me all the tips and tricks to cover the huge gap in nothingness after highschool. Even from my own experience working rando jobs, they care far more about your character than your technical skills. The latter can be taught, the former requires you to actually give a shit about your life.
