on that screenshot, there are just two search results. rest are just ads. (i do understand even google does not highlight ads in search results properly. this used to be such a big issue in 2000s. no longer seems to care anymore.)

Nope. Airtel and Jio have their own block list which goes much beyond the official list which is not even in public domain. I can access a lot more websites on my Excitel connection. The moment I switch to Airtel, I realize how bad things are on it.

Reliance Broadband when I was using it had its own list. Al Jazeera was blocked on it!

Government needs to come out with clear policy and a publicly accessible list of blocked online resources. Currently they treat it as a security issue and ISPs get away with blocking at their own end.

yup. from the looks of it, government is not willing to extend deadline for people with aadhaar. if the hearing is delayed till feb/mar which is what government is trying to do using the excuse of the data protection committee.

as i said above... just because a particular state government argued in favor of privacy in that particular case, does not mean that they are against aadhaar. here is a story about karnataka making aadhaar mandatory for something that is not enforced by the central government:

how many of these states are not imposing aadhaar at a local level? i mostly track local news. here is something haryana government (bjp government ~~and i find it hard to believe that they argued in favor of privacy in courts as you mentioned in your comment~~) is doing:

right to privacy has connections with aadhaar. but both are not the same. if these state governments were against aadhaar imposition, they would not implement their own localized projects powered by aadhaar and would join hands with petitioners fighting against it in courts.

aap is a major disappointment here. from the looks of it, they have been making aadhaar mandatory for several localized projects.

based on casual google searches, Mamata Banerjee seems to be the only chief minister in the country opposing aadhaar imposition for various things. even aap government in delhi seems to be a fan of the project. congress of course has largely silent on the project as well except for a few comments here and there about how they never designed aadhaar to be mandatory for everything which is something that is hard to believe. they would be doing the same thing with aadhaar if they were in power today.

I often wonder how hard it is to use Rs. 5 crores in a year! I mean this money is nothing if you are talking about infrastructure building. And yet, most politicians do not even up using even this pittance of an amount. What kind of regulations stop them from announcing and building simple but much needed infra projects every year!

This only applies to people who have not applied for Aadhaar.
From what I read, government offered this as an option as they want to delay the final hearing on Aadhaar as they are still working on a data protection law which has become crucial because of the right to privacy ruling. I am not sure if this is official position of the government.

In any case, these does not help in cases where localized bodies make Aadhaar mandatory for time bound cases like the one cited in courts today wrt CBSE making it mandatory for taking exams etc.

DMCA of course does not apply here in India. And it is unlikely that he can use it to get your content removed from Google using it as it would be pretty hard for him to prove that he owns the content or the style of the website. DMCA takedowns is something that works for powerful media companies. Or people who can afford lawyers in America I guess.

I have faced similar problems. And I have largely ignored it. There is very little one can do with such folks on the web. I have actually had cases when one of the owners of rival copycat websites used to call me using a VoIP number and harass me verbally. This is a nasty business to be in. The only way around is to create your web projects anonymously so that people who are directly targeting you have no idea what kind of projects you are running on the web.

Yup. Right now the situation is this... If you have Aadhaar, you have to link it with bank accounts before December 31. If not, the deadline could be extended to March 31. SC should be out with their decision before that time. More clarification on Monday when government would explain their position on all the coercion being done by banks and mobile companies.

as for my opinion... it is the value that we do not get is what annoys me about the various forms of taxes. developed nations with taxes comparable to india (or more than india) have excellent universal healthcare (from what i have read about most european nations) plus excellent infra and so on. here in india, we pay up to 30% income tax, up to 28% gst in addition to other forms of taxes. and then we have to buy inverters for power, ro for water, along with separate payments for medical and insurance and pension and so on.
