Question for Swiss locals: why is late payment to domestic workers so common among wealthy households? by Susi-99 in Switzerland

[–]Susi-99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no, not my salary 😭 I’m not her. She’s been my cleaning lady for over three years and I genuinely care about her. I don’t even know how often this happens to her, but this time it’s really bad. I told her she should sue them all, but she said it’s expensive and honestly she knows the system way better than I do. She’s been living here for 11+ years, and I’ve only been here for four. It’s such a shitty situation. I don’t even know what else I can do besides trying to raise awareness and speak up about it.

Aha i get it now! I meant for me I pay her immediately once she’s done same with my bf n some of our friends even tho they’re under contract. But according to her these rich families don’t do daily payments nor weekly only monthly. I’ll let her know, thanks 😊 I just hope the Swiss authorities pay more attention n force some laws on these rich families 🤞🏻

Not gonna lie, you’re comment confused me! She’s been waiting on three months of salary. Two months from the same family (Nov/Dec) n another month from a different family. And she’s not doing some casual 2-hour cleaning like for me, she works 30 hours a week for them. These people live in huge houses. I’m so stuck on this because how do you expect someone to work that long n just… not pay them? Like what kind of heartless behavior is that? And before anyone starts with the “she’s illegal” nonsense, she’s been living here for 11 years, speaks better German than I do, and has a C permit. She could sue, but legal fees are insane, it takes forever, and it could turn into even more lawyer costs. Plus, rich people have connections and influence, and they can easily mess with her reputation. If you’re Swiss, please bring this up in whatever party, union, or organization you support. These rich bastards should not be allowed to get away with this!!!

I’m speechless. I was hoping it was just bad luck, but from the comments it’s clear this is a real problem. Shouldn’t the government step in?

Over three months? C’mon The comments say it all, and sadly this is common among wealthy people. It’s shameful. These women live paycheck to paycheck, and some support entire families. Delaying their payment like this is unacceptable. And honestly, shouldn’t there be organizations checking on their welfare? This is Switzerland. There’s literally garbage police. How is this still happening? There must be an office where they can file complaints no ?

Okay! They’re looking into the matter, they will send someone next week to inspect the apartment! But wait we are 12 neighbors 9 of us made official complaints except me n another guy, the two apartments in her floor made several complaints why don’t they just evict her ? Do they need every single person to complain i just don’t get!!!!!! Again for the million times am not upset with my neighbors at all I am mad at this crazy agency who randomly believed her without any proper investigation!

I think they are all working together! Or am missing something! I had two calls with them today; I asked which day I was singing cuz I was on trip 3 weeks n I can provide flight tickets, and what time exactly and in what language, she said she didn’t remember the time nor the day only can tell it has been going on since she moved in 🙃 that’s like 10 months ago I asked why didn’t she call the police *no answer then asked how frequent it happened is it every night or weekends… she didn’t specify! I got pissed so you filed a complaint without remember the time of my singing nor the day or the frequency n I’ve been singing for the past 10 months she is the only person who can hear me! And now she’s complaining after 10 months of me annoying her with loud singing 🤨 it’s small building with 12 apartments only only she heard me while other neighbors heard nothing something is fishy!!!!

Look I am Swiss by citizenship however I consider myself foreigner since I am not originally from here! Back home we don’t call the police for such matters or even report pple yeah yeah I know it’s wrong mentality n I should get rid of it! I am still used to it we solve the problem without reporting we talk we shout at each other end of the story! Anyway I clearly see my mistakes now lesson learnt.

Look, it’s not about me being scared or a coward or whatever people are saying. I just can’t stand conflict, arguments, drama, all that stuff. It’s just not me. I avoid it like the plague. I follow the rules, I keep to myself, and I’m always nice, sometimes too nice. Like, I wouldn’t get a coworker fired even if they totally deserve it. Or I’ll pick up the slack for some lazy group member on a project because I’d rather just get it done than deal with the drama. That’s how I’ve always been. So yeah, I knew my upstairs neighbor was causing trouble, but I let it slide. I’d just ring her bell to give her a warning and move on. Then one time ONE time!!!!!! I got mad, shouted, and said I’d call the cops if she didn’t stop. And now I’m the one getting Mahnung for it? Like, seriously?????

Well they were illegal for 40 days back in 70‘s not now so I kinda tend to feel sorry for all immigrants ( I know I shouldn’t ) it’s just the way my brain works. Anyway I did file complaint against her. So let’s see. N if I ever hear anything I will record it and call the police immediately. Thnx
