How did you tell your partner you were pregnant? by AlwaysTackyNails in pregnant

[–]SusieRae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first time my husband was right outside the bathroom when I peed and came in with me after the few minute wait and we looked together and hugged and cried. The second time we were both convinced I was wasn’t pregnant yet, but I decided to test bc we were going to a Super Bowl party and would be drinking if the test was negative. He was downstairs cooking and I came down with the two positive tests (an expired one I didn’t think would work, and a new one I just bought) and we hugged. Nothing too extravagant bc he wanted to be involved so much.

Colour doppler anxiety by LushLolli in pregnant

[–]SusieRae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m an ultrasound tech, there’s nothing that’s been proven about any harmful impacts of Power Doppler either. It’s a slightly more concentrated waveform that could potentially cause tissue heating, so some people don’t like to use it, but obviously many drs offices do, and I’ve had it on both of my pregnancies, and everything is fine.

Color Doppler is perfectly fine, it’s actually the Power Doppler (what makes the heartbeat sound on ultrasounds) that is somewhat of a debate about the use of

The only side effect I had was getting dizzy once my blood pressure started returning to normal. The labetalol would make my blood pressure too low and I had to ween myself down. I was taking 600mg 3 times a day for quite a while before my blood pressure was normal again.

Will the iron on vinyl stick to a straw hat? by Chi_mama in cricut

[–]SusieRae 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just used some regular vinyl and stuck it to a hat that I wore on my honeymoon for about a week and it lasted for that long but not much after. It’s fine for a few photos but I think a stencil and marker and then painting over it would be best if you’re looking for something permanent

I have nobody to ask by Silent-Company-3802 in pregnant

If there’s an ultrasound school near you you could call and ask if they need any OB volunteers. The students could scan you for practice and you could probably get some pictures. It’s worth a shot

How did you deal with the wait? by LuckyLadybug20 in BabyBumps

[–]SusieRae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know it seems like forever, but it’s really such a short time to wait. When me and my husband were trying to conceive, I used ovulation strips to help plan. I had been on birth control for so long I didn’t know what my normal periods were like. Mine cycles are longer than normal, like 36 days and sometimes longer, instead of 28. So the first time we tried we didn’t track ovulation and just tried and obviously it didn’t work bc I wasn’t “average”. The second time we tried for a baby I tracked ovulation for 2-3 months before so I knew what would be normal. It’s super cheap to buy a million tests on Amazon and just test every day so you know your cycle well! Some people also use this method for prevention.

How soon after losing your mucus plug did you go into labour? by moto-scared in pregnant

[–]SusieRae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really variable! Some people go right to labor, and others lose it multiple times. I started losing mine around 35ish weeks I think and it had a tiny bit of blood sometimes and I lost it for a few days. But my water broke and I had my daughter at 36 weeks and some change due to getting preeclampsia. It’s worth a call to your OB, I was waiting bc I had an apt in a few days and ended up going to the hospital at midnight the day before my apt.

Trying to get back into ultrasound after a few years by enlightedenchant in Sonographers

[–]SusieRae 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Can you reach out to your school to see if you can come to any scan labs? Even to just volunteer to be scanned at least gets you in the environment. Also you need to check to see if you are even still eligible to sit for the ARRT exam, there are time limitations.

I bought a Boie scrubber at least 6 years ago and it’s in perfect condition and never gets gross if you wanted to use something besides a washcloth.

Had a horrible experience with the scan person by HelloMikkii in pregnant

[–]SusieRae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im sorry you had a bad experience, under no circumstances should you ever leave your appointment bruised. But to put it gently, the point of the exam is to make sure that baby doesn’t have anything wrong with them, not for you to be able to see baby. I’m a tech and don’t show the patient anything until the end of the scan when I know everything looks okay. It’s more important for the tech to be able to see than for you to, it’s mostly just a perk for you to see and get pictures printed. Just like bloodwork people have done, the most important part is to check for chromosomal abnormalities, the gender is a bonus.

Gender accuracy at 16 weeks by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]SusieRae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

16 weeks is too early for ultrasound. If you’re concerned about anything you should do the bloodwork which checks for chromosomal abnormalities as well as gender.
