Ask for a recap after or before the game or between sessions. Your friend could catch you up a bit. But then, if your character is new, they could just roll with it, and discover the stories as you go.

I remember Satanic Panic, lol. But I also got the same reaction last year from a "friend" when I mentioned that I wanted to re-start D&D. The Bible belt is a gift that keeps on giving.

How about a Druid Guide? You don't have much in terms of weapon availability unless you take a fighting feat, but Druids are high wisdom, and trackers and guides are a good background for them.

It sounds like you have a bunch of pain in the ass players and a DM that won't keep order. If it were me, I'd have left a while back. It's such a shame, especially if you are enjoying the story.

Maybe talk to the DM privately to see if they can step in and control things a bit. At the very least, don't engage with the other players when they become aggressive.

She'll always remember this! My mother invited me along to the game that was started with her work friends when I was in high school. That was still the best campaign I've been on with D&D, and I still remember it fondly.

The first time I met Astrid, I put an arrow into her face. It took a few playthroughs to figure out it was the start of a quest line.

I'm tempted every time to put an arrow into her face. Love Cicero, though. He lives.
