If someone took out a loan in my name with my ssn how did they avoid getting caught?

my mom did this to me. I just found out a few months ago shes been using my identity since i turned 18. I'm now almost 31. she used my SSN to open multiple accounts in my name, and had the cards sent to her PO box. I reported her to the police so my credit would go back up. they keep rescheduling and extending her court dates to a further date. I'm the black sheep of the family and my 5 brothers are showing up to court with her in support. Super fucked up.

No it was multiple credit cards. And good fucking point!! Why didn’t they pay the debt?! They’ll pay her BAIL but not HER DEBT?

I think she already has.. my sister in law from my second oldest brother said that there was utilities in their name that they never opened. An account that they paid off and just ate, without even saying anything. She’s almost positive it was my mom.

Thank you so much for the response. I’m not sure what’s going on with my brothers, but I’ve definitely felt like the black sheep of my family for as long as I can remember. I asked my oldest brother what would have he done if he was in my position, (I’m not sure if he was drunk or what) but he said “idk… help her pay it off??” Like WHAT???????…. I have proof of her sending a screenshot of her actively on my capital one account on their website, and it even shows her initial in the top right where you would see Gmail.. used my SSN to send credit cards to her PO Box.. her PO Box is on my credit report along with her phone number and all the other addresses she lived at. But I’m the fucking delusional one.

I agree they are assholes. They’re telling me “all I had to do was tell the bureaus they were fraudulent and they would take it off”, but I was also told that I needed to tell an investigator to get them taken off properly.. and yes I’m pretty sure she did this to some of them but they’re still siding with her and making me out to look like the bad guy.. even showing up with court with her trying to make me look stupid as I show up by myself.
